14 new CASA volunteers were sworn in by the Eighth Judicial District Court. These volunteers will advocate for and support 17 children in foster care. Currently, 629 CASA volunteers serve Clark County, with 463 actively assigned to cases, advocating for 817 children. With more than 3,500 children in foster care in Clark County, the need for additional CASA volunteers remains significant. Tara Clark Newberry, District Court Judge for Department 21, is hosting a three-part Law Clerk Civil Boot Camp. This valuable training series is open to all District Court law clerks, both new and experienced, and covers the full journey of a civil case from the initial filing to closure.

Part 1 kicked off today. Judge Clark Newberry provided an overview of how civil cases move through the court system and how legal practice works outside the courtroom. This boot camp offers law clerks a deeper understanding of the process and the "how" and "why" behind civil practice, enabling them to improve efficiencies in processing civil cases.

The Court is proud to highlight Judge Clark Newberry’s ongoing commitment to improving case management and professional development of Court staff and service to the public.

Interested in attending the State of Nevada vs. Duane Davis trial?

Here’s how the courtroom seating lottery works:

✅ Arrive at least one hour before court begins each day.
✅ Court staff will conduct the lottery before proceedings.
✅ Individuals selected will receive access to available seating.
✅ Appropriate attire is required to enter the courtroom. Items that display names, photos, images, messages, or symbols related to the case are not allowed. Items that show support for or against anyone or anything involved in the case are also not allowed.

The lottery will be conducted daily. Courtroom seating is limited.
