Late post: The first thing I saw when I opened my FB yesterday was my cousin’s post of his daughter’s birthday photos. But, part of the caption was confusing to me…”houseless, but not homeless…” I didn’t understand until I scrolled to find another post from his wife with photos of their house…after the home fire.
The fire started downstairs while they were celebrating their daughter’s Sweet 16th birthday party on the second level. The fire started from electrical wiring and spread in the walls to the attic. Thankfully, they all got out and are safe with high spirits.❤️
I am so happy they all escaped unharmed. It could have been a different story if it happened when they were all sleeping.
You always hear stories, read articles, hear in the news or watch video footage of homes fires, people who survived, and those of whom sadly lost their lives. It’s hard to imagine it would happen to someone in your family.🙏🏼
A couple of years ago, we met a family friend who had retired from fire protection. He shared with us information about home fires and household dangers that we never knew, but I felt was so vital to know as a homeowner and more importantly, a parent. It was disturbing to find out that most homes are protected by the most minimal protection, if not any. I think what hit me most was that tests show that our store-bought smoke alarms have a 55 percent failure rate. So, why do they even sell these or have them installed in our homes knowing this fact?! The answer is: “The minimum protection is all that’s needed to meet code.”😡
I knew then, that this was an important opportunity for us to help educate families about the misconceptions of home fires and household dangers. So, for all my friends & family who do not know, our business is Safety Shield LLC. Our mission is to help protect families, their pets, and possessions from the devastating affects of home fires.
We never really took the time in the past to research our fire protection in all the homes we have lived in…basically, as long as there were working smoke alarms, we honestly believed we were safe and it would alert us in time if we ever had an emergency. Knowing what we know now, it would be difficult to sleep with just the minimal protection most homes have, if any.
Do you know what your current fire protection is? If you are interested in learning more about home fire safety or joining our mission, please contact me directly and I would be happy to provide more information.
