NVLA Community,
Today is Juneteenth! There are things happening in Vegas to celebrate this holiday with family & friends during the weekend.
The city of Henderson, a suburb of Las Vegas in the southeast valley, will also offer a Juneteenth Festival on Friday, June 19. Held at the Water Street Plaza, the event features a community vendor market; proclamation presentations; and community tributes from Juneteenth Nevada foundation, the Buffalo Soldiers and other community partners. Enjoy the spoken word with Ashley “Ms AyeVee” Vargas, Vanessa Williams, Ryan Alexander (Petit Monstre) and Rodney J. Lee, as well as performances by Thunderstorm Artis, Naturally 7 and more.
“Las Vegas’ First Lady of Jazz,” Michelle Johnson, returns to Myron’s at The Smith Center on June 19 at 7 p.m. for a Juneteenth production titled “Freedom —A Juneteenth Production.” Drawing from her Liberian roots and West African ancestry, the acclaimed vocalist will weave a deeply personal narrative through an evening of spirituals, Broadway, jazz and soul.
A Las Vegas Juneteenth Festival will also be held at Symphony Park in Downtown Las Vegas on Saturday, June 20, from 4-9 p.m. Guests can expect an evening filled with cultural exhibits, family-friendly activities and delicious food, as well as live entertainment from local legends.
