Las Vegas Democratic Socialists of America

Las Vegas Democratic Socialists of America The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) is the largest socialist organization in the United States. We believe that no one’s material needs should go unmet.

The Las Vegas chapter fights for greater democracy, freedom and equality for all people in our community and country. As a group of leftist organizers and civil actors, we recognize that corporations, the finance industry and private interests stripped working people’s political power. The greed and unchecked power of the elite sent economic inequality soaring to historic heights, threatening the

very stability of our nation. We reject the violence of the status quo and the oppression the masses. We are socialists, feminists and anti-racists who share a positive vision for a better, fairer world. To dismantle inequity and restructure our political-economy, we hope to empower everyday people like you to fight for change through campaigns and educational initiatives. Together we can impact our community for the better and fulfill our nation’s promise of democracy. Join us to help fight for liberty and justice for all!

The question of the state and political power is critical to revolutionary socialist strategy. In this classic work of Marxist political theory, Vladimir Lenin examines the role of the state under capitalism and the conditions for socialist revolution.

Join us for a two-session reading group of Lenin’s “The State and Revolution.” This is a great event if you're new to DSA!

We did not get the results we hoped for in Val & Shaun's races. We knew going in to these campaigns that we faced long odds against incumbents and their corporate backers.

Despite the loss, we can take pride in the incredible work our chapter put into these campaigns. Our electoral program has grown and improved significantly since our last race in 2024. This year, we mobilized 116 volunteers who knocked on 17,000 doors and made 140,000 calls. We trained a dozen members to be canvass and phonebank leads, and welcomed over 50 new members to our chapter during the course of the campaigns.

We're grateful for every single volunteer who spent their free time on these campaigns over the last few months. It was hard work, especially as the weather grew warmer, but we all kept showing up regardless. Even though we didn't get the outcome we hoped, we had thousands of conversations with our neighbors and made connections that will last beyond an election cycle.

We want to extend a special thank you the campaign leadership team who made it all happen: our working-class candidates Val & Shaun, Val's campaign steward & electoral working group steward Brady, Shaun's campaign steward Zoe, electoral working group steward Abe, and LVDSA co-chair Tiffany. We know they are all feeling this loss after putting so much time and energy into these campaigns. We appreciate their dedication and the outstanding organizing they did over the last six months.

So, what now? Our electoral working group will be poring through the data and planning the future of our electoral work together, and we'll continue showing up for our community like we've always done. If you'd like to get involved, visit lvdsa.org/join to become a member.

The fight continues 🌹

What are the driving forces of history? Why do social revolutions occur? How does the economic structure of society affect our consciousness?

To answer these questions, Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels based their analysis on the conditions of material life. This theory, known as historical materialism, is foundational in socialist thought. It has guided analyses of institutions, social conflict, and revolutionary strategy.

Join us virtually on June 17th @ 7pm for a collective close reading of two paragraphs in the Preface to A Contribution to the Critique of Political Economy (1859), a text by Marx which provides a powerful summary of historical materialism. The objective is for everyone to develop a working understanding of the theory and its significance for the history of socialist thought and practice.

Our members have worked hard and sacrificed their free time over these campaigns because we all believe in our movement. Val & Shaun aren't politicians we're hoping to get crumbs from, they're fellow socialist organizers who have been building with us all along. Swipe for some photos over the years!
