Recently an individual posted several questions that many parents and soon to be parents have regarding child support. Questions include:

Is there anyone to talk to before a child is born to get an idea of the process and estimated amount of support that should be paid?

Is there a formula for calculating child support payments?

Does custody and child support have to a be a long, draw out process if the other parent is vindictive?

How can I be sure this child is mine and when will the courts decide I am the father?

To get an answer to these cases you can call the office at 702-671-9200 to speak with a representative 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday. However, in the case of Clark County cases the common answers to these questions would be:

The process is not the same for every case. There are factors- like the establishment of paternity that can be different from case to case.

We cannot estimate the child support payments with knowing all the information surrounding a case, i.e., custody arrangements, day care costs, health care costs, income of the parties, etc.

There are formulas for calculating child support, but it depends on case situations as mentioned above.

Our office is not equipped to handle matters of custody- that needs to addressed with a case heard in Family Court. The length of time it takes for a case to be handled is entirely up to the parties in the case- it can be done as soon as 60 days.

Our Mission

Child Support Enforcement is a family-first program intended to ensure families self-sufficiency by making child support a more reliable source of income.

The program goals are to ensure children have the financial and medical support of both their parents; to foster responsible behavior towards children; to emphasize the child's needs to have both parents involved in their lives; and reduce welfare costs.

We seek to improve the lives of families by engaging and empowering parents in providing continuous support for their children. To accomplish this mission, we locate parents, establish paternity, establish and enforce child support and arrearage orders. The State of Nevada collects and disburses payments.
