The Vision of the "Downtown Rangers" is "To help create the most enjoyable downtown experience worldwide". The Rangers is a cadre of trained individuals whose purpose is to enhance the of life of the residents, business owners, and visitors in the Fremont East District of downtown Las Vegas. The primary responsibility of the Rangers team is to walk a "beat", and they walk this beat in pairs of two
. The team members remain highly visible during their shift. They engage passersby with friendly greetings while walking their beat. They are very familiar with the downtown area, businesses and services. They actively assist tourists, visitors, and residents within the area - helping by giving information on directions, restaurant locations, taxis, and mass transit, including "team walk" companionship to persons who are lost or uncomfortable walking alone within their beat. Ultimately, all Rangers team members are knowledgeable of and utilize all resources available to them to ensure the highest quality experience for those within the Fremont East District and neighboring blocks. While team members are NOT security officers, they are trained in the basic laws of Nevada Revised Statutes and Las Vegas City ordinances. This equips them with the ability to elicit an effective police response to situations that arise in their district. Team members take no law enforcement actions in the performance of their duties. They are however, trained in submitting concise witness statements to assist law enforcement in criminal investigations
