Las Vegas Police Protective Association The LVPPA is the largest police association in the State of Nevada. The LVPPA is the largest Police Association in the State of Nevada.

We represent the commissioned Police Officers and Correction Officers of LVMPD. We also represent The City of Las Vegas Detention and Enforcement Marshalls, and Municipal Court Marshalls. We are members of (NAPO) National Association of Police Organizations, (SNCOPS) Southern Nevada Conference of Police and Sheriffs, and the BIG 50 which is an informal association of the largest law enforcement associations in the United States. Today we remember LVMPD Police Officer Jason Swanger, who died of complications from COVID-19 on this day in 2021.

Officer Swanger joined the LVMPD on February 12, 2014. He began his law enforcement career working patrol at the Enterprise Area Command (EAC). From there, he transferred to the South Central Area Command (SCAC) before returning to EAC. Officer Swanger became a field training officer and served as a lead officer overseeing the training of new officers during their first year on patrol. He was devoted to the Explorer Program and was active in educating children at Steve Schorr Elementary School and Charles A. Silvestri Junior High School about law enforcement and making positive life choices.

Before joining the LVMPD, Officer Swanger served as a culinary specialist in the U.S. Navy for 11 years. He continued his service to the country by joining the Nevada Army National Guard.

Officer Swanger was known as a devoted father and husband who went the extra mile for those in need and dedicated himself to policing in order to make a difference in others’ lives. He was 41 years old and was survived by his wife, daughter, son, parents and brother.

We will never forget.

Since 2008, the Law Enforcement Assistance Fund (LEAF) Charity has raised money to support the children and surviving spouses of our fallen officer members. To date we have successfully paid for the college tuition for several children and stand ready to assist more.

We are able to do this in large part due to contributions from our very own officers paychecks. But there are several business who donate as well. We want to take a moment to recognize and say thank you to Peppermint Hippo Las Vegas and lastoxicas.tv both clubs have contributed significantly to our charity and it is very much appreciated.

Today we remember LVMPD Detective Justin Terry, who died in a tragic accident on U.S. 95 on this day 2022.

Detective Terry joined the Department on August 21, 2001, after earning his degree in criminal justice. During his time with LVMPD, he served in the Patrol Division and worked in the S*x Offender Apprehension Program. Widely regarded as an expert in his field, he was also a sworn task force officer with the U.S. Marshals Service. In his final year on the job, he continued protecting children in the Homicide S*x Crimes Bureau, S*xual Assault and Abuse Section.

Throughout his career, Detective Terry honored fallen officers by participating in the annual Cops on Top memorial hike, where officers, family and friends climb to the peaks of Nevada’s tallest mountains in remembrance. He also started the enduro program at Southeast Area Command, enabling officers to use dual-sport motorcycles to access hard-to-reach areas and provide services to the homeless.

Detective Terry was highly respected and dedicated his life to serving our community. He was 45 years old and was survived by his wife and two sons.

Today we remember LVMPD Police Officer Igor Soldo, who was killed alongside his partner Police Officer Alyn Beck on this day in 2014.

Officer Soldo joined the Department on April 9, 2006. He was a graduate from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and known as an avid Cornhuskers fan. During his time at LVMPD, he served in the Patrol Division as well as working in the Problem-Solving Unit at Northeast Area Command. He was a fi****ms instructor since 2008 and taught several academies at the range.

On June 8, 2014, Officers Soldo and Beck were eating lunch at a pizza restaurant in the 300 block of North Nellis Boulevard when two subjects, a male and a female, approached their table and shot them execution-style without warning. The subjects then stole both officers’ weapons and ammunition and fled to a nearby Walmart, where they shot and killed a civilian.

Responding officers followed the two into the Walmart and exchanged gunfire with them. The male subject was killed by rifle fire from a responding officer, and the female then committed su***de.

Officer Soldo was 31 years old and left behind his wife, Andrea, and an infant son.

Today we remember LVMPD Police Officer Alyn R. Beck, who was killed alongside his partner Police Officer Igor Soldo on this day in 2014.

Officer Beck joined the Department on August 21, 2001, and served in the Patrol Division as well as in several training assignments. He became a field training officer in 2006 and continued his passion for training by becoming an Academy training instructor in 2007. He was known by those he trained as a tough and tenacious instructor in defensive tactics, MACTAC and strength training. In 2014, he returned to the Patrol Division, serving in the Northeast Area Command while advancing through the promotional process to become a sergeant.

On June 8, 2014, Officers Beck and Soldo were eating lunch at a pizza restaurant in the 300 block of North Nellis Boulevard when two subjects, a male and a female, approached their table and shot them execution-style without warning. The subjects then stole both officers’ weapons and ammunition and fled to a nearby Walmart, where they shot and killed a civilian.
