The Nevada State Contractors Board recently joined the California Contractors State License Board for a joint board meeting in Las Vegas.

The meeting provided an opportunity to share best practices and discuss important issues affecting the construction industry, including unlicensed practice enforcement, economic development and reducing barriers to licensure while maintaining strong consumer protections.

Nevada law distinguishes between General Building contractors and Specialty contractors, and it is important for licensees to understand the scope and limitations of each classification.

A General Building (B) contractor is engaged in the construction or remodeling of buildings or structures that provide support or shelter for persons, animals, or other movable property. A Speciality (C-1 through C-42) contractor whose operations require special skill and whose principal contracting business involves the use of specialized building trades or crafts.

Building Nevada’s future starts with investing in the next generation! 👷‍♀️👷‍♂️

The Commission on Construction Education is helping strengthen Nevada’s construction workforce by supporting education, training and opportunities for those looking to build a career in the industry. During Fiscal Year 2025-2026, more than 100 contractors generously contributed to the Commission. Their support helped provide educational opportunities for hundreds of students, allowing them to gain valuable skills, participate in hands-on training, and develop into the next generation of builders, craftsmen, supervisors, and business leaders.

The Commission encourages additional contractors, construction companies, and industry partners to consider making a voluntary donation to the CCE Account. Every contribution directly supports programs that introduce students to the construction trades.

The Nevada State Contractors Board has elected Louis Polish, Jr. to serve as Chair for the 2026-2027 fiscal year. Polish succeeds outgoing Chair Kent Lay, who served in the role throughout the 2025-2026 fiscal year.

Polish was first appointed to the Board on November 1, 2022. As Chair, he will help with carrying out its mission to protect the public.

“I am honored to have been elected Chair of the Board,” said Polish. “I look forward to working alongside my fellow Board members to continue protecting Nevada consumers, supporting licensed contractors, and advancing initiatives that strengthen our construction workforce.”
