📖 Kids are more excited to read when a topic sparks their interest. Sometimes children don’t know what interests them yet, and that’s okay! Try exploring lots of different nonfiction topics together.
💚 When something grabs your child’s attention, go deeper by finding more books, articles, and videos about that topic. Curiosity is a powerful motivator for reading and learning!

💡 Tip: In addition to books, science or history websites such as kids.nationalgeographic.com are a great place to start!

Clark County School District is the 5th largest school district in the country, serving hundreds of thousands of students across Southern Nevada, and yet less than half of third graders are proficient in reading.

We know that third grade is a critical milestone where students shift from learning to read to reading to learn. When children fall behind at this stage, it can impact their confidence, academic success, and future opportunities.

This is where our community can make a real impact. By supporting our goal of funding 2,500 home libraries for Nevada’s most vulnerable students, you help put books directly into the hands of those who need them most. With greater access to stories, family engagement opportunities, and ongoing support, we can empower more children to build strong literacy skills from the very start.

What an incredible day! 🎉📚

A huge THANK YOU to all of the families, community partners, authors, vendors, volunteers, and supporters who helped make our 4th Annual Readers in Training Resource Fair a smashing success!

More than 200 guests joined us to connect with valuable community resources, enjoy literacy-focused activities, meet local authors, and celebrate the importance of early childhood learning. Events like this are only possible because of the amazing organizations and individuals who generously share their time, talents, and resources with our community.

Thank you for helping us create a fun, welcoming space where families can learn, connect, and build a strong foundation for lifelong reading success. We can't wait to see you again next year! 💙📖✨

This summer, Spread the Word Nevada is saddling up with Horses4Heroes for a season full of stories and ranch-side fun! 🐎

As part of their summer camp, we're bringing storytime to the stable with interactive reading sessions. During our most recent visit, our team member Robert gathered with campers to enjoy 'Do Not Open This Book' by Andy Lee, a laugh-out-loud story that kept everyone engaged from beginning to end.

And the fun didn't stop there! After the final page was turned, campers put their knowledge and teamwork to the test with an action-packed and learning-based game that featured plenty of laughs, lots of friendly competition, and more than a few opportunities for horsin' around.

It was a hay-load of fun and a wonderful reminder that a love of reading can happen anywhere, even on a ranch.
