Las Palomas Fire-EMS-Extrication Las Palomas is a very family oriented department. We now also provide Swift Water Rescue / Rope Rescue for the entirety of Sierra County

We provide Fire response for the Las Palomas area, and EMS/Extrication for the southern half of Sierra County, NM.

Crews currently on scene for a structure fire at 478 Las Palomas Canyon rd. There are no reported injuries and crews have the fire under control.

A little after noon today 5/30/26, Las Palomas Fire Department responded to reports of a vehicle fire. Upon arrival, on scene, the vehicle's engine compartment was engulfed in flames. We were able to successfully put the fire out, and there were no injuries reported.

Thank you Sierra County Sheriff's Office, New Mexico State Police , and Truth or Consequences Police Department for helping initially get all of the passengers out and away from the vehicle, and for providing traffic control during the incident.

We are heartbroken to hear that Taos County Sheriff's Office lost one of their sergeants, Joseph Apodaca, in a motor vehicle crash in the line of duty. We mourn alongside them and are keeping Sergeant Apodaca’s family, the Taos County Sheriff’s Office, and their community in our thoughts and prayers.

Every day, EMTs, paramedics, firefighters, dispatchers, and first responders answer the call — delivering lifesaving care, showing up in the toughest moments, and working together with hospitals, law enforcement, and public health partners to improve outcomes, together.
