Today we close the final chapter of Doña Ana Communities United.
As we say goodbye, we're proud to share that our final community project, Love Grows Here, has been completed.
Made possible through the generous support of the Charles T. Townley and Victor Roberts LGBTQIA+ Fund, this heart-shaped community art piece was created by LGBTQIA+ community members, allies, and chosen families across Doña Ana, Luna, and Sierra counties.
Built with 2,299 beads and 442 links, every bead represents a story and serves as a reminder that LGBTQIA+ people throughout Southern New Mexico are seen, supported, and surrounded by community.
This project reflects what DACU has always been about: bringing people together to create something bigger than ourselves.
Although DACU is closing, our work continues. The Mesilla Valley Timebank and the Really Really Free Market have found a new home with Doña Ana Village Association, where they will continue building community for years to come.
To every volunteer, member, partner, donor, and friend who believed in our mission, thank you. You made this work possible.
Love grows here. It always will.
