Dr. Karen M. Trujillo was a beloved educator, visionary leader, and unwavering advocate for students and teachers across New Mexico. Her passion for education, her radiant energy, and her relentless commitment to helping others left a lasting mark on every classroom, school, and community she touched.

Through the STEM Educator Scholarship, held at your Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico, Karen’s legacy continues by supporting students who have participated in Educators Rising NM or are pursuing STEM education at New Mexico State University. This scholarship is more than financial support, it’s a continuation of Karen’s mission to inspire future educators, spark a love for STEM, and ensure New Mexico’s children have bright, opportunity-filled futures.

🎉 We Did It—Two Years Early! 🎉

This week, the Dr. Karen M. Trujillo Memorial Foundation presented our final check to UNM, officially completing our goal of endowing scholarships at all seven universities in New Mexico that offer teacher education programs:

NMSU, UNM, ENMU, WNMU, NNMC, NMHU, and USW.

We’re also honored to have an additional endowment with the Southern New Mexico Foundation’s STEM scholarship program for aspiring STEM teachers statewide—further expanding our impact on the future of education in New Mexico.

When we launched this mission, we gave ourselves five years to complete it—and we accomplished it in just three.

We’d like to give a very special thank you to Dr. Karen M. Trujillo’s husband, Ben Trujillo. His vision and dedication have been the driving force behind this Foundation from the very beginning. Without his leadership, none of this would be possible.

We are also incredibly grateful for the tireless efforts of our Golfing Committee and the Board of Directors—your support and commitment continue to make a lasting impact.

To everyone in Las Cruces and across New Mexico who has contributed, sponsored, and supported us—thank you for helping us carry on Karen’s legacy.
