🚨 SCAM ALERT: Urgent Warning for Notaries 🚨
Notaries should be aware of an active scam targeting contact information listed in Secretary of State directories. Fraudsters are sending highly polished text messages and emails posing as clients needing notarizations, often referencing documents like a “financial affidavit.”
They then insist on a quick 5–10 minute Zoom or Google Meet call to “go over requirements” before the appointment.
⚠️ The danger:
The meeting link they provide is malicious. Clicking it may install malware, compromise your device, or give attackers access to passwords, client data, and sensitive business information.
Red Flags to Watch For:
-Unsolicited requests for urgent notarizations from unknown contacts
-Pressure to join a pre-call using a link they provide
-Requests that feel rushed or overly scripted
-Reluctance to let you generate the meeting link yourself
Protect Your Practice:
Never click unfamiliar or unsolicited meeting links
If a pre-consultation is needed, you should generate and send the secure meeting link yourself
If the sender refuses or insists on their link, treat it as a scam attempt
Block and report any messages using this pattern immediately
