The Whitko School Board meeting last night featured a special presentation by Whitko Travel Club Advisor Antimony Fox, who shared highlights of the club’s past international adventures to Ireland, England, Italy, Greece, and beyond! 🌎✈️
The Travel Club continues to offer international travel opportunities while expanding its offerings this year to include day trips for students!

🌊 End of May: Deep River Waterpark trip for junior high students

These exciting opportunities give Whitko students even more ways to learn, explore, and make memories beyond the classroom!
📌 Other highlights from last night’s School Board meeting included:
👏 October Students of the Month were recognized.
➡ SWES Principal Joel Holsopple shared that Parent-Teacher Conferences had a great turnout.
➡ WCA Director Chris Benedict provided updates on students working toward earning certifications, participating in training, and attending field trips.
➡ WJHS Principal JD Maurer shared information about student reports and the teacher evaluation process.
➡ WSHS Principal Kathy Longenbaugh highlighted Jostens orders, Parent-Teacher Conferences, Financial Aid Night, FAFSA Night, school pictures, the upcoming PSAT, and more.
➡ Director of Special Services Kari Walmer provided updates on current grant applications.
➡ Director of Curriculum Faith Erexson shared that state test results are in and upcoming plans for the next professional development day.
➡ Athletic Director Drew Benedict shared the successes of our student-athletes as fall sports wrap-up and that winter sports practices are underway.
➡ Director of Transportation Rhonda Snavley provided department updates on new bus driver training and safety.
➡ Director of Operations Joe Jackson shared that the roofing and parking lot projects are nearing completion and job openings are available for custodial staff.
➡ Whitko Little Cats Assistant Director Sieara Arnett highlighted they recently hosted a LaunchPad event, there are plans for a Christmas program, and field trips for students.
➡ Director of Technology Matt Buchanan thanked the IT department for the extra work they provide on special projects.
Dr. Korus welcomed everyone back from Fall Break, thanked fall sport student-athletes and the marching band students for their contributions to Whitko. She also highlighted that the cross country course is once again being used to host events and that it is exciting to start off winter extracurricular activities and see the continued building improvements.
🏫 Budget and Capital Projects
The evening also included a public hearing and approval of the 2027 Budget, 2027 Bus Replacement Plan, and 2027 Capital Projects Plan. Presentations were made by Whitko Business Manager Lynn Leininger and Municipal Advisor Mike Therber of Therber & Brock.
