On this day, 43 years ago, Morningside Volunteer F.D. Morningside Volunteer Fire Dept. Volunteer Firefighter Michael P. McCarthy answered his last call while responding to a fire. Volunteer Firefighter McCarthy was a U.S. Air Force veteran & is remembered for his enthusiastic & dedicated service.

Today, PGFD joined our public safety partners, local businesses, and community members to mark the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Recruits from Career Recruit Schools 74 & 75 completed a stair climb at Northwest Stadium to honor the 343 FDNY firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice. Lt. Jared Trossbach reminded the recruits of the powerful historical and emotional context as well as the legacy we carry forward. PGFD salutes all who responded that day and extends our deepest sympathies to the families forever impacted. We will never forget.

Yesterday, members of the PGFD, Prince George's County Executive Aisha Braveboy and MD Senator Senator Nick Charles Nick Charles had the opportunity to join the family and friends of Mrs. Louvenia Dickson as they celebrated her 105th birthday! Mrs. Dickson was presented with a proclamation from the county and state and a PGFD Challenge Coin. The D-Shift crew from Station 823/Forestville was on hand to provide a Ride-by and had a chance to spend some time getting to know Mrs. Dickson and her incredible family before returning to service. Here’s to many more years of happiness, Mrs. Dickson!

Happy Labor Day! This morning, career, volunteer companies Berwyn Heights VFD and Prince George’s County Volunteer Fire/EMS Greenbelt Volunteer Fire Department, and civilian members of the department joined Prince George's County Executive Aisha Braveboy for the Greenbelt Maryland Labor Day Parade. The PGFD is proud of the incredible work our members do for our community every day!

Today, the PGFD is . 

Joey Stanger, who is fighting bone cancer, joined members of the PGFD and public safety partners from across our region for a special day at the PGPD Special Operations Division. Members of the department were on hand to greet the Stanger family and to make Joey an honorary member of the PGFD. Joey was presented with a firefighter’s helmet and shield, personalized with his football jersey number, and a letter and book from Fire Chief Thelmetria Michaelides. The A Shift crew from Station 802/Shady Glen then assisted Joey with a tour of a tiller truck.
