Support Saves Lives 💜🩵

You don’t have to wait until things feel unbearable to reach out for help. 988 is there for anyone who is struggling—whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, anxious, hopeless, emotionally exhausted, or simply need someone to talk to.

During Week 2 of Su***de Prevention Month, we’re reminding our community that support saves lives. Reaching out is a sign of strength, and connecting someone to the right support can make all the difference.

📱 Call, text, or chat 988 to connect with the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline.
💜 You don’t have to be in a full crisis to ask for support.

On Thursday, September 3rd, Laredo Public Health’s Assisted Outpatient Treatment and Juntos for Better Health Program hosted Cafecito, Pan & Pages at the Santa Rita Recharge Station—creating a welcoming space to slow down, connect, and focus on mental wellness.

Participants engaged in journaling as a healthy coping skill, using reflection and creativity as tools to process emotions, reduce stress, and support overall well-being. Sometimes, caring for our mental health can begin with something as simple as putting our thoughts on paper. ✍️💭

Thank you to everyone who joined us for an afternoon of cafecito, pan, meaningful conversation, and connection. 💙

🤝 Sharing knowledge. Building partnerships. Strengthening public health.

This week, Laredo Public Health had the pleasure of welcoming representatives from the City of Pharr as they continue working toward developing and strengthening public health services in their community.

The visit provided an opportunity to exchange ideas, share experiences, discuss best practices, and learn from one another about the programs, services, and systems that help support a strong local public health department.

We are always proud to share what we have learned while also learning from our partners across the region. Stronger collaboration between communities helps strengthen public health for all of South Texas.

Thank you to the City of Pharr for visiting us and for the great conversations! 💙

💧 Know the difference. Know the facts.

Recent conversations about drug testing in Laredo’s wastewater have raised questions about our drinking water, so we want to help clear up the confusion:

Wastewater is NOT the water you drink.

Wastewater is water that has already been used and is collected through the sewer system. Testing wastewater allows the City of Laredo Health Department, in coordination with Utilities, to identify community-wide trends and better understand where education, prevention, and resources may be needed.

💧 Drinking water is treated and delivered through a separate water distribution system for use in our homes and businesses.

When it comes to important City information, remember that not everything shared on social media is accurate or provides the full context. Take a moment to verify what you see and get the facts directly from official City of Laredo sources.
