City of Laredo Claims the First-Ever Texas Certified Public Manager Elected Officials in Texas
The Texas Certified Public Manager (CPM) Program marks a significant milestone as three elected officials from Laredo, Texas, make history by becoming part of the state's inaugural Texas Certified Public Manager Elected Official Cohort.
Established in 1995, the Texas CPM Program has been a cornerstone in management development for public and non-profit sector leaders across federal, state, and local governments. Spearheaded by Texas State University's Public Service Academy, now known as the William P. Hobby Center for Public Service, the program aims to enhance the performance of administrators and organizational effectiveness in government entities.
This comprehensive 7-course program provides participants with a robust curriculum rooted in theory and practical application. Leaders are equipped with the tools and knowledge to address real-world challenges facing their agencies, departments, and communities while adhering to professional standards.
After nine months of rigorous coursework at Texas A&M International University, Municipal Court Judge Jesus “Chuy” Dominguez, District 7 Council Member Vanessa Perez, and District 4 Council Member Alberto Torres, Jr. have imprinted their names in Texas history. Judge Dominguez is the first elected Municipal Court Judge, Vanessa Perez is the first female Council Member, and Alberto Torres, Jr. is the first male Council Member in Texas to attain the prestigious Certified Public Manager designation.
City Manager Mr. Joseph Neeb joins in celebrating their remarkable achievement by becoming the first City Manager in Laredo to become a Certified Public Manager, highlighting the city's commitment to excellence in public service.
The City of Laredo commends these individuals for their unwavering commitment and dedication to professional development!
“I would like to congratulate Hon. Municipal Court Judge Jesus Dominguez, Hon. Council Member Vanessa Perez, and Hon. Council Member Alberto Torres, Jr. for successfully completing the CPM Program in a record time of one year.
