The May Foster Grandparent Spotlight is on Karen Hill.

Karen has dedicated her time to be a Foster Grandparent in Green River this year. Born in Spokane, Washington, she has lived in Wyoming for 42 years. Before becoming a Foster Grandma, Karen worked as an aid at the Child Development Center in Green River.

Grandma Karen thoroughly enjoys watching children learn and that has been her favorite part of being a Foster Grandparent. She fondly remembers the time a 1st grader discovered he could understand addition and subtraction and the way his eyes just gleamed.

Karen’s loving family includes her husband who she has known for 53 years, four children, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Karen’s favorite childhood memory is a very quiet, snowy evening in the country when she could hear bells ringing from the town three miles away. She describes it as a very magical time.

Karen is retiring after this year in order to spend more time doing her favorite things like crocheting, baking and gardening. She has also been known to sing a song or two back in the day. Karen lives by the best advice she’s ever been given which is “Think before you speak.”

Wanda Donges has been a dedicated Foster Grandparent in Sheridan, for almost 7 years. A Wyoming native, she originally hails Newcastle. Wanda worked as a grocery store clerk and assistant manager before becoming a Foster Grandparent.

What Wanda enjoys most about being a Foster Grandparent is being around the little ones and receiving hugs when she least expects them!

Wanda fondly remembers time spent with her Dad, fishing! Now in her leisure time, Wanda likes to read, play bingo, and work on crossword and word search puzzles. We tried to find out Wanda’s secret talent but she insists that it’s still a secret and is going to remain a secret!
