Better Wyoming

Better Wyoming We believe everyday Wyomingites should have a say in the decisions that shape our lives.

Through civic education, leadership development and collective action, we coach folks on how to speak up, get involved, and work together to improve our communities.

Linda was a graduate of the first Better Wyoming Grassroots Institute, back in 2019. She will be sorely missed.

We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Linda Barton following an automobile accident. Linda was the Founder and Chair of the League of Women Voters of Fremont County and President of the League of Women Voters of Wyoming. Her vision, determination, and deep love for community built a strong foundation for civic engagement and voter empowerment. We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and all who worked alongside her.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 7 at 12:00pm at the Lander Community and Convention Center. As we grieve this tremendous loss, LWVFC remains committed to continuing the important work Linda believed in so deeply. During this time, we would ask anyone who would like to help support LWVFC to reach out.

By the time the general election rolls around in November, 80% of elections have already been decided. Anyone who waited to vote until then is missing out on voting in the elections that matter for Wyoming’s future.

That is why Better Wyoming is working hard to get people out to vote in the Wyoming Primary elections on Aug. 18.

P.S. Today is the last day to change your party affiliation with your county clerks office in order to vote for the party of your choice in the Wyoming Primary elections.

In a new series, Better Wyoming looks at primary elections from recent years that featured two very different candidates and were decided by just a handful of ballots. In our first post, we look at the 2024 contest between Senator Jim Anderson of Casper and his challenger, Bryce Reece, which was decided by just 30 votes but tilted control of the Wyoming Senate.

One of the most exciting things Better Wyoming gets to do is work with amazing partners.

Over the last year, we’ve collaborated with the Wyoming Education Association (WEA) to protect public education funding, fight off book-banning bills that would punish educators, and train their members to become grassroots leaders in their communities.

DID YOU KNOW, in 2024...

- Only 27% of eligible voters cast ballots in the primary elections. This means that 73% of Wyoming residents had no say in the elections that decided many important races.

- Nearly one-third of elections for the Wyoming House—23 races in all—were determined by less than 250 votes. Several legislative elections came down to a dozen or fewer votes!

- With such a low voter turnout, that meant that only 9% of Wyoming residents voted for candidates associated with the Freedom Caucus. However, that was enough for the group to take control of the House of Representatives.
