Make sure to go support our good friends at Bond’s Brewing tonight! We’re grateful for their support of the Laramie Fire Department and the Local 946’s Burnout Fund. Every dollar spent by the 946 out of our Burnout Fund goes right back into our community and financially supports the people who need it most after disaster strikes. Thank you to Bond’s, thank you to Roamstead Realty, and thank you to all who allow us to give back to our neighbors!

C Shift spent today’s training getting some work in with Truck 2!

You have probably seen the LFD’s largest rig downtown running out of Station 1. Truck 2 adds a great deal of versatility to LFD’s capabilities. In addition to the reach of the apparatus ladder, it also has the department’s largest complement of ground ladders. This allows personnel greater and more varied access to buildings and victims. Truck 2 also has a variety of forcible entry and ventilation tools, including hand tools, saws, an acetylene torch, and large fans. Truck 2 also has a large nozzle underneath the bucket for exterior water application!

The LFD’s fleet of rigs is varied and allows fire personnel to meet this community’s needs with the necessary tools.

First round of CPAT testing happening today at Station 3! The CPAT ensures all candidates are at the appropriate beginning level of fitness before moving on in the hiring process. It assesses a candidate’s ability to execute simulated aspects of fireground operations all in succession. We’re excited to be searching for the next generation of firefighters to continue providing this city with the quality of emergency services that you deserve!

Brothers, Sisters, and our community—

The U.S. Senate has already passed the Honoring Our Fallen Heroes Act, which finally extends federal line-of-duty death benefits to the families of firefighters who die from occupational cancer. This is something we all know is desperately needed. Cancer is the leading cause of death in the fire service, and too many families have been left to struggle because the current system doesn’t recognize the reality of our job.

But right now, the House version of the NDAA does not include this protection. If Congress doesn’t keep Section 1098 in the final bill, families of firefighters lost to job-related cancer will continue to face financial hardship on top of unimaginable loss.

We can fix that, but only if we speak up.

Please take 30 seconds today and contact your representative using the IAFF link below. Tell them to keep the Honoring Our Fallen Heroes Act in the final NDAA.

Our families deserve better. Our fallen deserve to be honored. And our survivors deserve the benefits they’ve been promised.

Thank you for standing with the fire service and supporting the families who stand behind us every day.
