Update: We have located the individual and vehicle responsible. We want to thank the public for their assistance in this situation.

The University of Wyoming Police Department is requesting the public’s assistance in locating a hit and run that occurred today at approximately 5:53pm 5/7/2026. The incident occurred on the southeast corner of 15th and King/Ivinson.

The vehicle is described as a White Chevy with damage to the front bumper and is reported to be a male driver. The driver hit and damaged approximately 37’ feet of metal fencing.

If you know who is driving this vehicle you can call us at 766-5179 or text anonymously to 847411 and include UWYO at the start of your post.

Please help us congratulate Officer Alex Brown on his graduation from the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy! Officer Brown is a UW Graduate as well as an active duty member of the Wyoming National Guard.

We're incredibly excited for Officer Brown to be back on campus with us and begin his field training. Congrats again Alex, we know you’ll continue to bring a positive attitude and dedication to the UW community.

We’re proud and excited to welcome two new officers to our department!

Kegan Wells (right) and Gabe Adams (left) were officially sworn in today. Officer Wells is a University of Wyoming graduate and most recently served as a dispatcher for our department. Officer Adams is a Metro State Denver graduate and a Laramie native.

Both officers will attend the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy in the coming months before beginning their in-house training.

The University of Wyoming Police Department is proud to announce the promotion of Officers Dan Applehans and John Core to the rank of Sergeant.

Sergeant Applehans joined UWPD in 2025 after a distinguished 20-year career with the Laramie Police Department. He currently serves as a Field Training Officer, bringing extensive experience and mentorship to the department.

Sergeant Core joined UWPD in 2019 following 12 years of service with the Worland Police Department. He serves as UWPD’s detective and as a department fi****ms instructor, contributing valuable investigative and instructional expertise.

We look forward to the continued leadership and professionalism these two outstanding individuals bring to UWPD. Congratulations to Sergeants Applehans and Core on their well-deserved promotions.

Our longtime Office Associate, Brenda Aguirres, will be retiring at the end of the month. Brenda has dedicated 35 years to the University of Wyoming, including 25 years of outstanding service with our Police Department.

We will be hosting a retirement celebration on Friday, December 19th at 1 p.m. here at our building to honor her achievements and wish her the very best in her next chapter.

The University of Wyoming Police Department is asking for the public's assistance in identifying a suspect in a theft of a electric scooter. The theft occurred on Monday 10/20 at 11:57pm by the pictured suspect outside of North Hall.

The suspect is believed to be an older white male wearing glasses and around 5'5" in heigh and average build. The scooter is black Caroma and identifiable with a Wyoming flag sticker on the foot area.
