The members of La Porte Fire Department Local 363 are keeping La Porte County Sheriff's Deputy Jon Samuelson, his family, and his law enforcement brothers and sisters in our thoughts and prayers following today's tragic incident.

Deputy Samuelson has faithfully served the citizens of La Porte County for 12 years and is a dedicated first responder who has always answered the call to help others.

We stand with Deputy Samuelson and the entire La Porte County Sheriff's Office during this difficult time and wish him strength, healing, and a full recovery.

Don't toss lithium-ion batteries or devices in the trash or regular recycling bins - they can start a fire. Drop them off at a legitimate battery recycling spot. Not only is this SAFER, but it's also better for the planet.

Charging something big like an e-bike, scooter or power tool with a lithium-ion battery? Do it OUTSIDE!

Use a flat, dry area away from direct sunlight, anything wet, kids or tripping hazards. And make sure your bike or device is secure so it doesn't fall while charging.
