Miss Ann has kick-started a Book Club with the kids on the Residential Side, and they’ve dubbed themselves "The Reading Rebels." First on their rebel reading list was "Better than the Movies." At their debut gathering, they munched on a popcorn bar and concocted a blue raspberry Sprite potion. The rebels then dove into a lively book chat, answering questions and sharing smiles all around. To wrap up, some got crafty with bookmark-making, while others philosophized on how reading is the ultimate chill pill and stress buster.

Today we celebrate Thank A Youth Worker Day and the incredible individuals who pour their time, energy, and heart into supporting and uplifting young people every single day. πŸ’™

Youth workers make a lasting impact by encouraging growth, building confidence, creating safe spaces, and reminding our youth that they are seen, valued, and capable of amazing things.

This past week, we celebrated JSC Spirit Week, where we celebrated the energy, creativity, and community that bring us all together! Thank you to everyone participating and helping make this week so special.

Join us in showing appreciation for the youth workers who inspire, mentor, and make a difference every day. πŸ‘βœ¨

Today was a blast at the Center! The residents and Miss Marissa joined forces to whip up some refreshing drinks for all the Youth Specialist Workers for Employee Appreciation Week. Not only did they get to play baristas, but they also sipped on their creations! Meanwhile, Miss Julie threw a Star Wars Day extravaganza (May the 4th be with you!) with some galaxy-inspired geography worksheets. Then the fun went intergalactic with a bit of STEM magic, crafting light saber cards using LED lights and batteries. And let's not forget Miss Ann, who turned pretzel rods into light sabers for a tasty treat! May the snacks be with you!

The NOVA Day Program recently visited the Lubeznik Center for the Arts to explore the "2026-Cosmic Connections" exhibit. Participants discussed how art connects with scientific, spiritual, and subconscious perceptions, reflecting on our relationship with the universe. The exhibit featured three artists, highlighting their unique styles and deeper meanings. Afterward, the youth created their own cosmic expressions, enhancing their creativity. This enriching experience promoted cultural awareness, emotional exploration, and social interaction, helping participants gain insights about themselves and the world.

Today for group, the residents engaged in a pattern game designed to enhance their cognitive skills. The floor was adorned with a pattern of squares, and each resident was tasked with completing the sequence after first identifying its underlying structure. In the event of an error, participants were required to restart the entire process.
Each individual was encouraged to seek assistance from their peers as needed. Following the completion of the pattern, the group convened to reflect on their experiences. It became apparent that some residents had to restart multiple times, while others noted that despite setbacks, they persevered and ultimately succeeded. Many expressed appreciation for the support system available during the activity, highlighting the positive feelings associated with completing the task.
One resident chose not to participate, prompting a discussion about the acceptability of opting out. The group acknowledged that while it is perfectly fine to refrain from participation, such choices may lead to missed opportunities for growth and engagement.
The residents derived great enjoyment from the activity, leading them to create their own pattern. They invited our Center's community supervisors and Nurse Ashley to participate while the residents took the lead in running the activity. Following the event, the staff shared their reflections on the experience. All in all, it was a splendid shindig brimming with giggles and smiles, leaving everyone smiling from ear to ear!
