Congratulations to Rebecca Henne who was recently awarded the Michigan State University Distinguished Academic Staff Award!

She is a visionary in nutrition education and has shaped the history of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education (SNAP-Ed) with unmatched leadership and strategic insight.

Colleagues describe her as “the steady compass in a sea of change,” guiding teams with clarity and purpose. Through her work, Rebecca ensured that evidence-based nutrition education reached communities where it mattered most, improving lives and strengthening food security.

Please join us in celebrating this well-deserved achievement!

🐻Fred the Bear Found His “Furever” Home! 🐻

In the fall of 2025 Fred joined the MSU Extension staff as a donation for the 2026 4-H Annual Fundraiser Auction. Upon learning how well Fred fit into our office, Jim Novak of The Bells Event Center, Almont and host to the Auction bought Fred and then generously donated him to our office.

We are “furever” grateful for this kind gesture and we welcome everyone to stop by and meet Fred the Bells Bear. He would be happy to share information about 4-H and MSU Extension activities.

An invasive worm is destroying forest floors and gardens across the country. Once jumping worms get into the soil, they're nearly impossible to get rid of — so experts say curbing their spread is the best tool against them.

Selling Michigan Honey & Maple Syrup Safely
Food safety is key to successfully selling honey and maple syrup in Michigan. Learn how to safely handle, package and store honey and maple syrup, and understand the exemption guidelines for selling these products in Michigan. Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development allows for collection and production of honey and maple syrup that can be sold without a license, and there is an expectation that this is done safely. Personal hygiene, food safe containers, storage, cleaning and sanitizing methods, and MDARD’s exemption guidelines are topics covered on this workshop.
