Two distinguished students from Imlay City and Almont High Schools were honored by the Lapeer City Officers Charitable Fund with a $1,000 scholarship award for submitting outstanding essays on pursuing careers in law enforcement.

This academic scholarship is available for any Lapeer County student that maintains a 3.0 GPA or better and is outing a career in law enforcement. The scholarship is limited to two students and is only available for their first year of college.

I’m incredibly proud of these students as they are going into the greatest profession in the world!

The City of Lapeer Police Department had the pleasure of honoring some true heroes yesterday. On February 2, 2026 at the Lapeer Recreation Center, Ms. Jewell suffered from a medical emergency. The actions of Karen Buchanan, Bree-Ann Weingartz, Lori Kolvek, Rodney Church, DNR CO Jamie Salisbury and Officer Trevor Johnson saved Ms. Jewell’s life.

Their quick response, training and teamwork directly resulted in saving a life. I’m incredibly proud of their actions that day and I commend them for their commitment to their fellow citizens!
