{UPDATED POST ABOVE}

[MON 3:30PM] We have a line of showers expected to come into the county between 5pm and 6pm. Normally that's not a big deal, but today may be different...

This line has been creating what's called a "wake low" where the winds get extremely strong after the showers end. To our west, Chicago has seen wind gusts around 60 miles per hour, and the Milwaukee airport just hit 77 miles per hour!

We'll keep an eye on things as the showers cross the lake and enter southwest Michigan, but if you're looking for reds and yellows on the radar map - you won't see it. You probably won't even hear any thunder.

But if you planned on an evening walk in the park... well... This shows where the line should be around 6pm with the winds coming from the EAST behind it.

Congratulations to Firefighter Colton Martin on successfully passing his NREMT Paramedic exam.

Firefighter Martin started with LTFD in July 2023. He will now be a State Of Michigan licensed Paramedic.

Saturday April 4, 2026

Due to rain being in the area this afternoon and the chance for lightning, plus a successful test for the statewide drill last month, we're canceling today's siren test to avoid any confusion.

[SAT 8AM] It has been a wet one! Over two inches has fallen in parts of Inghan County this morning, primarily in a band from Lansing to Haslett, with another round of 1" plus in the south county. Road flooding - including parts of I496 - have been reported. This map shows the radar estimates as of 7am.

TURN AROUND DON'T DROWN! If you come across a flooded road, find another way. You don't want to find out too late that there's a pothole ready for your car...

More showers and storms are expected through the day, so keep a close eye on your basements too.

Lansing Area Traffic Alert: Reports of many streets flooded throughout Lansing. Please use caution while driving and do not attempt to drive through standing water.

{UPDATED POST ABOVE}

[THU 6:45PM UPDATE] The warm air has started to arrive and showers and thunderstorms are forming to our west. These are moving towards the northeast and not in any hurry to arrive here.

We will continue to monitor through the evening in case any get out of control as they approach, but all signs continue to point to the worst of the storms staying over southwest Michigan.
