Spring cleaning might make your home sparkle, but mixing the wrong products can turn it into a hidden health hazard. ⚠️🧽
Many common cleaners contain powerful chemicals that can react dangerously when combined. For example:
🚫 Bleach + ammonia = toxic chloramine vapors
🚫 Bleach + vinegar = chlorine gas
🚫 Different drain cleaners = potential explosions or harmful fumes
These reactions can cause serious breathing problems, burns, or worse.
Before you start scrubbing:
✔️ Read labels carefully
✔️ Never mix cleaning products
✔️ Use gloves and ensure good ventilation
✔️ Store chemicals safely away from kids and pets
A clean home shouldn’t come at the cost of your health. Stay safe, stay informed, and clean smart this spring. 🌱✨

The Lansing Fire Department would like to extend our deepest thank you to the Clinton County Sheriff’s office for inviting us to be honored at their 2025 awards ceremony last night. LFD was recognized alongside several other departments for our efforts during the Wacousta Mass Casualty Incident in May of 2024. Our prayers and deepest condolences go out to those affected on the fateful day and also to the Lansing Township Fire Department who lost one of their own as a result of the incident. Our thoughts and prayers are with you as well as FF Esch’s family.

Winds up to 60 mph and quarter sized hail are possible this evening so make sure any loose or fragile outside items are secured. The Lansing Fire Department wants to send a HUGE thank you to the students and staff of Cumberland Elementary School. Truck 41 and members of the Fire Marshalls’s division stopped by to give a little demonstration on fire safety to the younger students and gave each of them a chance to step into our shoes (or boots). Can’t wait to visit again!

As firefighters, we realize that not every structure fire is the same and not every structure fire goes perfectly. That’s where FGS or Fire Ground Survival training comes in. Firefighters must be able to exit structures quickly and safely should conditions decline. That often means bailing out of windows, squeezing through tight spaces or crawling through uncomfortable conditions. These trainings teach firefighters to remain calm under pressure and ensure a safe exit.

Lansing Fire took advantage of the freezing temperatures this week and ventured out to Hawk Island park to partake in some ice water rescue training across all three shifts. With the many bodies of water we have here in the city, this is an essential skill to train in the cold winter months. Stay warm and stay safe Lansing!
