And just like that…another summer is in the books.📚

Lansing students return to the classroom TOMORROW! Here's a refresher on school bus safety. And parents, you never know when we might have a pop quiz on this.😉😂

➡️Prepare to stop when a slowing bus has its overhead yellow lights flashing.
➡️Stop at least 20 feet away from buses when red lights are flashing, unless driving in the opposite direction on a divided highway.
➡️Slow down in or near school and residential areas.

We'll have extra officers out on the road making sure everyone remembers the rules.

More than 600 backpacks!!! Yes, you heard that right.

We teamed up with Power965fmlansing for their annual backpack giveaway, with LPD donating the backpacks for kids heading back to school!

A pretty great way to wrap up summer, if you ask us.🎒✏️

There aren’t too many summer weekends left, so don’t make a huge mistake and ruin them for you or someone else.

We will be out in full force looking for drunk drivers this weekend, so as always, if you’re going to indulge in some alcoholic beverages, have a plan and get home safely.

And if you don’t…. we will catch you 👀🚔🚨

What do Nick Saban and the Lansing Police Department have in common?

We’re both elite at recruiting! 🏈🚨

Today we added 19 new police recruits to the LPD team. These new members were vetted from a big pool of candidates, passed a background check, and have met all the physical requirements (see, it is similar to football recruiting!) and will now take the next steps at the Mid-Michigan Police Academy at Lansing Community College.

After about a year of academy work and training, they’ll be off and running on their own.

Please join us in welcoming our newest recruits to the gridiron … er, um — we mean police department! 🏟️👮‍♂️🏉

It’s a bird… it’s a plane… it’s a … crane?

Our officers were called out on an animal complaint this week where they unfortunately found an injured crane.

The good news? Officers were able to safely capture the bird before they could get away and eventually took them to Willside Rehab in Eaton Rapids.

You truly never know what you’ll see when you’re an LPD officer 😂👮‍♂️👏

Nothing gets by Lansing Police 👀

LPD officers and our MDOC partners recently checked in on a parolee and what they found during the compliance check spelled big trouble for the parolee.

Officers located a 9mm handgun AND evidence of the sale of illegal narcotics. As you might guess, the parolee was arrested on the scene.

Big shout out to our noon shift and our MDOC partners for their work in getting another gun and more drugs off our streets. 👏👮👮‍♂️

Officer Spotlight: Officer Jameel Jones

When he's not serving the Lansing community, Officer Jones is helping the next generation reach their goals on the track. A lifelong runner and accomplished USATF Masters athlete, he has spent more than a decade coaching local student athletes, developing state champions and mentoring young people throughout the Lansing area.

"Track and field was my ticket to get out of the City of Detroit, Jones said. “I had a village that helped me get where I am today, and I want to return the favor. I believe it takes a village."
