Thank you to these leaders in public education for speaking out about what MATTERS in Michigan schools:
* Dr. Mitchell Robinson, MSU Assoc. Professor and State Board of Education
* Dr. Pamela Pugh, President, State Board of Education and Candidate for State Senate 35
* Dr. Kristen Fauson, President, Forest Hills Public Schools Board of Education and Candidate for State House 80
* Kathy Lester, teacher-librarian, Wayne State educator
Positive outcomes stem from positive perspectives about what our students need to thrive; not from constant attacks.
Intentionally distracting noise is harming Michigan students by the day. Every headline and social post about a manufactured crisis that affects 1% of the population drives attention away from crumbling schools, teacher shortages, and students who need extra support to boost their reading.
That’s because the distractions aim to dismantle public schools brick-by-brick so that billionaires can say, “hand us the keys” and profit from a privatized model.
We know all too well that this approach will leave marginalized learners, and low-income and rural districts on the sidelines. This week, the Trump Administration began moving grants for Title I schools out of the Department of Education to the Department of Labor to facilitate.
As the federal government risks support for Detroit and other local districts, it’s more important than ever for us to bolster education protections, funding, and resources within Michigan.
