Spring has finally sprung in Michigan- and that means outdoor projects are about to begin.

Before you dig, remember to contact MISS DIG 811 at least 3 days in advance. It’s free, quick, and required by law.

Whether you’re planting a garden, installing a fence, or building a deck, underground utility lines may be closer than you think. In 2025 alone, there were 5,876 gas-related damages- many of which could have been prevented with a simple call.

âś… Dial 8-1-1 or submit a request online.
âś… Wait for utilities to be marked with flags or paint.
âś… Keep kids and pets away from marked areas.
âś… Never remove or disturb markings until your project is complete.

Calling before you dig helps prevent injuries, costly repairs, and service outages- for you and your neighbors.

Learn more through the Michigan Public Service Commission and make safe digging part of your spring routine!
