One common concern I hear about in every part of the state is property taxes and the cost of homeownership.

During National Skilled Nursing Care Week, I had the opportunity to tour Rivergate Health Care Center and see firsthand the incredible care they provide to some of the most vulnerable members of our community.

What stood out most was the compassion and dedication of the staff. I was given a tour by individuals who have worked and cared for residents there for over a decade, and their passion for what they do was clear in every conversation.

Thank you to all nurses, caregivers, and healthcare workers for the compassion, patience, and care you provide every single day. Happy National Skilled Nursing Care Week! 🩺❤️

Last week, I was joined by many of our local officials to testify in support of funding requests that will greatly benefit our communities. This includes new fire trucks for both Wyandotte and Riverview as well as a water main restoration project in Southgate.

More updates to come as we work on this year’s budget!

After receiving a thoughtful letter from Emma, I had no choice but to invite her to the Capitol as a “Representative for the Day.” It meant so much to spend the day with her, show her around, and talk to her about what it means to serve our community. Her curiosity and excitement was contagious. Emma is such a bright young lady and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for her.

Yesterday’s Kratom town hall was both powerful and heartbreaking. We heard from families who lost loved ones, first responders, doctors, and an individual who has lived through kratom addiction.

Despite being marketed as a harmless, “all-natural” product and sold openly in gas stations, kratom carries serious risks. It acts as an opioid and can lead to dependency, addiction, and tragedy.

We owe it to these families to spread awareness and act as a legislature.
