June is PTSD Awareness Month.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that some people develop after experiencing or witnessing a life-threatening event like combat, a natural disaster, a car accident or sexual assault. It's estimated that 7 out of every 100 veterans will have PTSD in their lifetime. It's important that they know they are not alone.

If you are a veteran in need of assistance, visit Michigan.gov/MVAA or call 1-800-MICH-VET (1-800-642-4838). If you are in crisis, dial 988 then press 1.

As a reminder, May is Mental Health Awareness Month and though today is the last day of the month, the conversations don't stop here. Each year, the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency (MVAA) helps fight the stigma, educate the public and advocate for policies that support veterans with mental illness and their families.

The MVAA's Link2Life program operates as a bridge to life-saving resources for Michigan veterans and their families. Link2Life is open to all veterans from any branch of the United States Uniformed Services, along with families of enrolled participants. To participate, veterans can call the MVAA’s Michigan Veterans Resource Service Center at 1-800-MICH-VET (800-642-4838).

Please note that the Link2Life program is not a substitute for the Veterans Crisis Line. If you or a loved one is in crisis, dial 988 and press 1 to talk to a caring, qualified responder.

The Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency (MVAA) has launched a State of Michigan Veteran Benefits webpage. The webpage was created as a one-stop resource for veterans and their dependents to navigate benefits and services available within the state of Michigan.

“Our goal is to ensure veterans can easily find resources and support available throughout the state,” said MVAA director Terry J. Sabo. “This new webpage reinforces that Michigan is a great place for veterans and their families to live, raise a family, work and retire.”
