City of Lansing Public Service Department The City of Lansing Public Service Department provides the city with many essential services.

The Public Service Department's mission is to provide essential services to maintain a high-quality of life in the City of Lansing, Michigan. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

-Recycling, trash and yard waste services (CART)
-Construction
-Maintenance of streets, sidewalks, bridges and trails
-Stormwater and sewers
-Issuance permit forms for right-of-way, soil erosion & sedimentat

ion control, and transportation
-Forestry
-Upkeep of City grounds such as parks and other facilities
-Plowing and salting
-Traffic calming
-Issuance traffic advisories
-Management of the biking and walking network (including permitting scooters)

In observance of the holiday, City Hall and offices will be closed on Monday, September 7, 2026.

Normal business hours will resume on Tuesday, September 8.

CART collections will be delayed by one day the week of Monday, September 7, 2026.

Traffic Advisory: BWL announces that starting today, Wednesday, August 26, Northbound Grand Ave between Shiawassee St and Ionia St will be closed for utility construction. Southbound Grand Ave from Shiawassee St to Ionia St is currently closed.

Detours will be provided. The eastbound detour for Shiawassee St has been updated. Local access maintained.

The closure is expected to last approx. until mid-September.
