On Friday, March 23, 2012, Lansing School District students competed against various schools in the greater Lansing area, including East Lansing, Dewitt, Ovid-Elsie, and Haslett at the Lansing Community College Foreign Language Day. Lansing students placed in several events!

Sexton Japanese students won 1st place in the Culture Quiz and 2nd place in the Sentence Scramble competition. The Sentence Scramble is a timed grammar exercise. They also won 2nd place in the Singing Contest.

Sexton Spanish students won 3rd place in the Poster Contest.

Thank you to all who participated. We are proud of you!

World Friendship Day will be held at Peoples Church in East Lansing, March 24, from 9:30 to 3:30. World Friendship Day is a collaboration between Peace Education Center, Greater Lansing UN Association, and LATTICE (Linking all Types of Teachers In Cross-cultural Education). Please join us Monday, February 27th at 4pm for an opening ceremony of the "Dolls of Japan: Shapes of Prayer, Embodiments of Love" exhibit. The exhibit will be located in the lobby of the MSU International Center. A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at 4pm in the lobby with a reception to follow in Room 305. The Honorable Kuninori Matsuda, Consul General of Japan in Detroit will attend this event.

Otsu, Japan is Lansing, Michigan's longest-standing sister-city. Voters in Otsu just elected their youngest female mayor.

Voters in Otsu, capital of Shiga Prefecture, on Sunday elected the nation's youngest-ever female mayor, a 36-year-old lawyer.
