Thursday proved to be another busy day for Local 3709 members.

Gold Shift handled 26 calls for service throughout the day, including several fire responses, and a vehicle fire on I-80/94 that was captured and shared below. The fire was initially reported by a neighboring towns Fire Chief traveling through the area, allowing for a quick response from our companies.

As a reminder to those traveling through our area, please slow down and move over whenever possible when approaching emergency vehicles operating on the roadway. A few extra seconds can help ensure everyone goes home safely.

Thank you to Firedog Media for capturing and sharing footage from the incident.

It’s been a busy month for Local 3709 members, and yesterday added another working fire to the list.

Yesterday, at approximately 1000 hours, Black Shift companies were dispatched to a reported vehicle fire in the 18700 block of Torrence Avenue. While crews were enroute, Lansing Chief 2902 arrived on scene advising incoming companies that the vehicle was fully involved in the driveway with fire extending into the residence.

With additional manpower assigned to Engine 29, crews were able to immediately split assignments on arrival. Engine 29 stretched for an aggressive attack on the vehicle fire while Ambulance 31 paired up with the Lieutenant for an interior push to check for extension. Ambulance 29’s crew assisted Truck 31 with searches and ventilation operations above the fire area.

Interior crews quickly located and knocked down fire that had extended into the home, preventing further spread and significantly limiting damage to the residence with no injuries to residents or firefighters.

Because of staffing and coordinated company operations, Lansing crews were able to handle the incident entirely with in-town resources while mutual aid partners provided station coverage for the community. This incident serves as another reminder of the importance of strong staffing, aggressive tactics, and well-trained companies capable of making quick, decisive actions under pressure.

This marks the 18th working fire response for Local 3709 members this month, including a mix of in-town fires, auto aid/mutual aid responses, and several multi-alarm incidents. The operational tempo our members have faced throughout the month continues to highlight the professionalism, adaptability, and readiness of our crews.

We would also like to recognize newly promoted Lieutenant Minkalis and Engineer Bolda for their work during their first in-town working fire since promotion.

Outstanding work by all companies involved.
