Congratulations to Christian Ferguson! He competed in the junior honor roll track meet and placed 1st in the 4x400 relay, breaking the MacDonald Middle School Record! He also placed 2nd in the 4x200 relay and 3rd in the Long Jump. It is noteworthy that he was the only 7th grader among all 8th graders. 🏃🏽💪🏾

Greater Lansing congratulates teen President, Gabrielle A. Ferguson. She is a senior at East Lansing High School. She is the daughter of David Ferguson, Sr. and Tara Ferguson. Gabrielle has been a member of the Greater Lansing Chapter for seven years and has held roles within the teen chapter to include Foundation Chair, Chaplain and current Teen President. She serves in her community through her local church, Lansing Church of God in Christ, National Honor Society and local NAACP. Gabrielle is a member of the ELHS March Band, Varsity Track and Field team, Drama Club and International language club. In the Fall, Gabrielle will attend North Carolina A&T majoring in Mechanical Engineering.

Greater Lansing congratulates Joseph Eiland. He is a senior at East Lansing High School and is the son of Dr. Daniele Eiland and Kendall Sykes, JD, MBA. Grounded in a strong faith, Joseph is an active member of Friendship Baptist Church. An accomplished student and leader, Joseph is a member of the National Honor Society and a varsity athlete in both football and lacrosse. He is also a founding member of his school’s first business club and mental health club, reflecting his commitment to both innovation and student well-being. Joseph has received academic recognition from the College Board for his outstanding SAT performance. Beyond academics and athletics, he has demonstrated exceptional leadership through his involvement with the Greater Lansing Chapter of Jack and Jill, where he has served as both parliamentarian and treasurer. Joseph plans to attend the University of Michigan in the fall.

Greater Lansing congratulates teen Chaplain, Josie Smith. She is a senior at East Lansing High School and is the beloved daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Jeffrey & Monique Smith. She has been an active member of Jack and Jill of America, Inc., Greater Lansing Chapter since 2018, where she currently serves in a leadership role as Chaplain.

Josie is committed to academic excellence as a participant in the Early College program, while remaining actively engaged in both her school and community. She is a member of the Black Student Union, participates in Track & Field and has faithfully served as a Youth Praise Team leader at Tabernacle of David for over seven years. This year, Josie had the distinct honor of being presented as the 2026 Debutante with the Les Mères et Débutantes Club of Greater Lansing. Through her involvement with the Youth Advisory Council (YAC), she continues to develop as a servant leader dedicated to making a meaningful impact. Upon graduation, Josie plans to pursue higher education with aspirations of entering the field of neurology, where she hopes to serve others and contribute to advancing healthcare.

Greater Lansing congratulates teen Treasurer, Aleya Travis. She is a proud senior at Grand Ledge High School, dual-enrolled in the Health Technology program at Lansing Community College. She is the daughter of Mr. Abel Travis and Dr. Alexis Travis and has been a member of Jack and Jill for seven years. Aleya is a four-year record holding varsity track athlete, demonstrating dedication, perseverance, and teamwork. She serves as Vice President of her school’s Black Student Union and is an active member of the National Honors Society.

Within the Greater Lansing Jack and Jill Chapter, she previously held the role of Foundation Chair from 2023–2024 and currently serves as Treasurer, continuing her passion for community impact and leadership. Aleya plans to attend Stony Brook University, where she will major in nursing. Her most recent achievements include receiving the Presidential Scholarship from Stony Brook University and the Remarkable Futures Scholarship from Chick-fil-a in recognition for her leadership, community service and academic success. She aspires to become a nurse and later specialize in anesthesiology. Aleya volunteers in the children’s ministry at her church, attended the 2025 National Academy of Future Physicians and Medical Scholars program, and has had the opportunity to travel to the seven continents of the world.

Our preteens demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills, along with strategic teamwork as they successfully strategized their escape (with 22 seconds left on the clock)! 😅

Escape rooms are effective tools for developing key interpersonal and cognitive skills, including problem-solving, communication, teamwork, and leadership. These immersive challenges placed the tweens in a fun yet goal-oriented, collaborative environment.
