As part of the Safe Prisons Initiative, the Michigan Department of Corrections is announcing an increased pay rate of approximately $10,000 per year for new corrections officer recruits at five Upper Peninsula correctional facilities. The increase is expected to improve recruitment and retention, a key component of the initiative. In Michigan, there are approximately 10,000 children in foster care and nearly 200 children who still need an adoptive family. We need your help to provide a safe, nurturing home for these children until they can be returned to their families. When children cannot be returned to their homes, foster parents are often asked to provide permanent homes. Learn more ⤵.

Inflation and war continue to bring uncertainty to this summer energy price outlook for Michiganders. The MSPC’s Michigan Energy Appraisal Summer Outlook 2026 finds that the impact of the unrest in the Middle East and Ukraine continue to impact costs of gasoline and diesel fuel and other distillates, with supply disruptions pushing up costs. The geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, including the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial shipping route, are putting significant upward pressure on refined petroleum products such as gasoline and diesel at a time when inflation was already rising. Each year, the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency (MVAA) helps fight the stigma, educate the public and advocate for policies that support veterans with mental illness and their families.

As a reminder, May is Mental Health Awareness Month and though today is the last day of the month, the conversations don't stop here. Each year, the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency (MVAA) helps fight the stigma, educate the public and advocate for policies that support veterans with mental illness and their families.

The MVAA's Link2Life program operates as a bridge to life-saving resources for Michigan veterans and their families. Link2Life is open to all veterans from any branch of the United States Uniformed Services, along with families of enrolled participants. To participate, veterans can call the MVAA’s Michigan Veterans Resource Service Center at 1-800-MICH-VET (800-642-4838).
