🚨 Severe Weather is Expected to Move In Tonight 🌩️πŸŒͺ️🌧️

With storms expected during the overnight hours, now is the time to prepare and stay alert. Please make sure you have multiple ways to receive weather warnings and are ready to act quickly if conditions worsen.

πŸ’‘ A simple step you can take right now:
Take a moment to check the storm drains near your home or on your street and make sure they are clear of leaves, sticks, and debris. Keeping drains clear can help reduce surface flooding during heavy rain.

What to watch for tonight:
πŸ’¨ Damaging winds
πŸŒͺ️ Tornado potential
🧊 Large hail
🌊 Heavy rainfall that could lead to street, urban, and low-lying area flooding
β›” If you encounter water over the road, Turn Around, Don’t Drown.
βœ… Stay weather aware
βœ… Be prepared for possible power outages
βœ… Use caution if traveling tonight

We will continue sharing updates as conditions develop.

🚨 Severe Weather Alert for Tonight into Early Tomorrow 🌩️πŸŒͺ️🌧️
We are monitoring a potentially significant severe weather event expected to impact the Lansing area tonight into early tomorrow morning. Current forecasts indicate a risk for strong to severe storms, with the greatest concern occurring overnight when visibility is lower and response times may be slower. If storms track directly over or remain in the Lansing area, localized rainfall totals could reach up to 3 inches, increasing the risk of flooding. Saturated ground will also lead to faster runoff and standing water concerns.

What we are watching:
⏰ Timing: 7:00 PM through 4:00 AM
πŸ’¨ Damaging winds: Up to 75+ mph
πŸŒͺ️ Tornado potential: The warm & cool air mixing plus the high winds
🧊 Large hail: Up to 2 inches
🌊 Flooding concerns: Urban and low-lying area flooding likely overnight

Possible impacts:
πŸ”Œ Power outages
🌳 Downed trees
🚧 Road closures
πŸŒ™ Increased overnight risk to the public due to darkness and reduced visibility

Please take time now to prepare:
βœ… Have multiple ways to receive warnings
βœ… Review your tornado safety plan
βœ… Avoid flooded roadways overnight
βœ… Be ready to act quickly if warnings are issued

We will continue to share updates through social media and opt-in RAVE alerts as conditions develop.

We have navigated the initial wave of severe weather this week, but additional systems may impact our area through the week. As of now, we must remain vigilant from Tuesday evening into Tuesday night. All severe weather hazards are possible, including tornadoes, and this event has the potential to be significant for central and southern lower Michigan. Depending on thunderstorm intensity, power outages are possible. Heavy rainfall and flash flooding of streets and creeks/streams are concerns, with urban flooding possible, particularly in the Grand Rapids to Lansing (I-96) corridor.

If flooding begins to occur please contact the 24/7 Maintenance Line Phone: (517) 483-4161.

A series of storm systems is anticipated to impact the region on Tuesday afternoon and evening. While initial storms may be developing, the most intense systems are expected to occur later today. Tornadoes are mostly unlikely, but a low risk does exist mainly near and east of I-69. Isolated power outages may also occur, with damaging winds and hail that pose the primary threat.
