Earlier this week, our campers had the opportunity to visit the Michigan State Capitol and the Ingham County Prosecutor's Office on their Downtown Lansing field day. They met with Senator Curtis Hertel, Jr., Ingham County Judge Lisa McCormick, Carol Siemon for Prosecutor, Ingham County MI, and Prosecutor Joel Martinez and learned about their work in public service. We appreciate them taking time out of their busy schedule to chat with us!

What a pawfect way to wrap up our last field day on the banks of the Red Cedar yesterday by visiting the MSU College of Veterinary Medicine and Veterinary Medical Center! A huge shoutout to Ms. Sarah and Ms. Micaela for sharing with us the different veterinary medical careers, and to Ms. Monica for showing us around at the clinical skills lab!

Our campers had the opportunity to visit the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB) yesterday afternoon! FRIB is a scientific user facility for nuclear science located on the Michigan State University campus and is the home to the #1 Nuclear Physics Graduate Program in the nation.

We are so grateful to Dr. Z(ach) for the easy-to-understand explanation of how the facility operates and generates new scientific knowledge. The tour of the one-of-a-kind facility was truly eye-opening. We love to hear that a few of our campers would like to enter STEM fields after the tour at FRIB! 🀩

Nature can touch all of our senses: sound, smell, sight, touch, and taste.

Our campers spent some quality time at the Michigan 4-H Children's Garden yesterday morning to immerse themselves in nature! Ms. Jessica took us on a garden tour, challenged us with a garden scavenger hunt, and introduced us to plants that feel, taste, or smell interesting! One of the plants smells like fresh popcorn, and our campers seemed to like that plant the most!

We then learned about flower pollination, tried a few types of honey, and painted with colorful flowers from the rainbow garden!

"Would you rather live in the ocean for 100 days or on Mount Everest for 100 days?" πŸ‘€

This is a question one of our campers asked Dean Chris Long of MSU College of Arts & Letters during our Meet & Greet last Thursday. Dean Long said he would rather live on Mount Everest for 100 days because the view would be more spectacular. πŸ”

It was such an honor to spend time with Dean Long and learn about his story. He certainly inspired our campers to reflect on their purpose in life and how education could prepare them to make a difference in this world. Some of our campers said they are committed to keeping MSU as one of their college options--they might very much be our in a few years! πŸ’šπŸ€

Thank you, Dean Long, for your valuable time and for the MSU CAL swags. A massive shoutout to Ms. Deanna for her assistance in getting this opportunity set up!

"Would you lake to go to Michigan?" 🀩

Our campers spent a warm summer Monday at Lake Lansing Park South, Ingham County Parks. We had so much fun!

We are so grateful for the nice weather today with only a few scattered "sprinkles."

What have they done today? Below is just a selected list of fun:

πŸ”¬ Investigated lake water samples
🎣 Fished on the lake
β›΅ Sailed a boat
🌭 Grilled at the park
🏊 Swam in the lake

A huge shoutout to the MidMichigan Environmental Action Council and the MSU Sailing Center for hosting us this morning!
