Protecting vital programs which federal Republicans defunded; protecting tax cuts which Michigan Senate Democrats initiated for working families and seniors in recent budgets; making progress on housing, child care, education, and more — all without raising taxes or tapping into Michigan’s rainy day fund — are significant wins for families in and across our state. We worked to pass a budget that helps offset some of the real hurt Michiganders are experiencing from Republicans’ tariffs, healthcare cuts, and the Iran war. I also secured funds for priorities including significant capital, infrastructure, and revitalization projects.

See comments for my press release on how these community projects and budget decisions make life more affordable for everyday Michiganders.

Ordinary people did an extraordinary thing 250 years ago. They had the radical, revolutionary view that government should be of, by, and for the people. Did you know our current 50 star flag was designed by one of Saginaw’s own? At this morning’s flag raising ceremony, I had the honor of sharing Bob Heft’s story and presenting his nephew Ryan with a flag flown at our State Capitol.

Bob’s story is about more than a flag. It’s about vision, determination, and believing in yourself even when others may doubt you. That sounds like to me.

See comments for Bob’s story, and stay tuned for more 250th Independence Day celebrations.
