Happy Labor Day! Today, we honor the workers who fought for the rights and protections that ALL of us benefit from.

Weekends, 8 hour workdays, workplace safety, fair wages, and more are ours because workers chose to stand together.

I’m proud to stand alongside my union partners as we continue to fight for these things. As we all know, the battle is never over, but we hold the line every day to protect the rights we deserve.

I had the honor of surprising two really special people last week!

For more than 50 years, Duane and Kaye Davis have helped shape the music, education, and cultural life of Grand Rapids.

It was a joy to surprise them with a special tribute celebrating their decades of work as musicians, educators, and mentors. Their impact can be seen in the generations of students and artists they’ve taught and encouraged through the years.

And what a better time to celebrate than Duane’s 80th Birthday! Happy Birthday, Duane, and thank you both for all you’ve given to our Grand Rapids community! Special thanks to GRAAMA and Kristin for allowing me to crash the party! 🎉

We love seeing investments in Grand Rapids! 💙

I had a great time joining the Evolution and Ezugi team to celebrate the opening of their new live dealer studio.

They have already hired 130 people locally from GR and surrounding areas. Their goal is 300 by end of year. That’s real growth!

Supporting Black-owned businesses means supporting our neighbors, local entrepreneurs, and the people who help make our community stronger.

Black businesses traditionally have less access to capital and are investing in parts of town that have been underinvested in by local government. They do the hard work of serving communities that are often overlooked. This is why Black Business Month is so important and why going out of our way to support Black owned businesses matters all year long!

Last week, I had the chance to join friends, colleagues, and community members from across West Michigan to celebrate Senator Gary Peters as his farewell motorcycle tour made it’s way through Grand Rapids.

It was a great afternoon reflecting on his years of service and hearing directly from Michiganders about the work he has done on issues like supporting our veterans and addressing PFAS contamination in our communities.

I am so glad to have been there to wish Senator Peters well as he makes his way across the state and closes out this chapter of service to Michigan. Thanks for stopping by West Michigan, Senator!

Women’s Equality Day is a reminder of how hard women had to fight for the right to vote—and how hard some are still working to take that right away today.

The 19th Amendment was the result of generations of women organizing, marching, speaking up, and refusing to accept that their voices didn’t belong in our democracy. And while it expanded the right to vote, we know that many women, especially Black women, continued fighting for decades to have that right fully recognized.

I don’t take that history lightly. I’m here because women before me kept pushing open doors, even when they weren’t opened for them.

Today, we honor them by continuing the work—protecting the right to vote, making sure every voice is heard, and building a future where every woman has the opportunity to lead.

Back in session!

I’ve been home for a few weeks and in that time Governor Whitmer came by to sign housing legislation, I’ve toured local businesses, met with constituents, and hosted coffee hours and Sunday dinner among other things. It’s been a blast!

But it feels good to be back on the House floor and I’m ready to keep showing up for District 82! We’ve got a lot of work ahead of us.
