It was a very long week in Lansing.
House Republicans pushed through a move to yank back nearly $645 million in previously approved funding, money that was meant to support Michigan families, local communities, and critical programs.

For our Downriver communities, this is not abstract. These dollars support infrastructure, public safety, environmental cleanup, workforce development, and services that residents rely on every day. Pulling this funding puts real projects and real people at risk.

I spent the week fighting to protect Downriver, working to make sure our projects are not left behind and that our communities don’t pay the price for political games. I will continue doing everything in my power to defend the investments our district was promised and deserves.
Downriver deserves stability, transparency, and leaders who show up and fight

I was very happy to help provide full Thanksgiving meals to over 100 Melvindale families on Tuesday. The meals included corn, mashed potatoes, rice, mac and cheese, celery, stuffing, gravy, a loaf of fresh bread, an aluminum roasting pan, and of course a fresh turkey. We had a great team working together to make it happen! Special thanks to Mike Hacham. Without Mike's help it would not have been possible to put this together. My team had been working for a couple weeks to put something like this together for the needy residents, but were coming to dead end after dead end with our original contact person. Fortunately, Mike stepped in and really got the ball rolling. It was great to be around so many people who truly care about the citizens of Melvindale.

🌟 Busy Day in Lansing! 🌟
Today was another full day at the Capitol, meeting with colleagues and stakeholders on several important issues impacting Michiganders.

We started the morning reviewing HB 4963 and other cannabis proposals currently before the Legislature continuing our work to ensure policy that supports both public safety and responsible industry growth.

Next, we met to discuss earned wage access and the upcoming legislation designed to give workers more flexibility and timely access to their paychecks while ensuring strong consumer protections.

Later, I joined a discussion on HB 4969 and the regulation of Kratom, focusing on how we can promote safety, transparency, and accountability in this emerging market.

we wrapped up with a meeting on the carbon capture bills coming over from the Senate exploring ways to balance innovation, environmental stewardship, and Michigan’s energy future.

It’s always encouraging to see bipartisan engagement and thoughtful conversation on such a wide range of topics. Thank you to everyone who took time today to share insights and expertise!

Now it’s off to session!

📣 Community Spotlight: Feeding Families in a Time of Need 🧡
Even in challenging times, our Michigan spirit shines brightest when we come together. With the current government shutdown impacting SNAP benefits, far too many families are struggling to put food on the table especially as Thanksgiving approaches.
That’s why I’m so inspired by an incredible constituent, Cindy Garcia, and her partners Maritza Morales and Sonia Pejuan, who are stepping up to collect food and donations for downriver families in need. Their program, Trust the Change, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit working to ensure that no child in our community goes without a warm meal this holiday season.
From November 1–21, they’ll be collecting Thanksgiving food items and donations to help local families celebrate together with dignity and joy.
If you’re able, please consider supporting this beautiful effort whether by donating, volunteering, or simply spreading the word. Together, we can make sure every Michigan family feels the warmth of our shared community this holiday season.

Let’s show the strength of our Michigan values compassion, generosity, and care for one another.

Kicking off another great week in Lansing!
It’s always good to be back in our state’s capital, connecting with people who are passionate about making Michigan stronger. Started the week meeting with the Global Kratom Coalition and then the Michigan Realtors Association both great conversations about important issues impacting our communities and local economies.

Had an amazing meeting with my talented staff as we prepared for a full week of work on behalf of Michiganders. Today, we’re on the House floor working hard to pass smart, effective policies that move our state forward.

Looking ahead to a busy and productive week filled with meetings, committee hearings, and meaningful discussions about the real issues that matter to people back home in Downriver and across Michigan.
Let’s get to work! 💪🇺🇸
