This Youth Voice Week, we’re highlighting how youth voice connects lived experience to real change.

For Ivy, being part of the Youth Advisory Council is a way to bring youth perspectives into policy and advocacy while staying connected to the afterschool programs that shaped her journey. It’s about turning experience into ideas and ideas into impact.

Through collaboration and community, Ivy has found new ways to explore shared interests, build relationships, and grow her voice alongside other young leaders across Michigan.

When young people are invited to lead, they don’t just contribute, they help shape what’s possible.

How are you supporting youth to share their ideas and lead in your space?

This Youth Voice Week, we’re celebrating what happens when young people are truly heard.

For Srijan, being part of the Youth Advisory Council has meant sharing ideas with leaders who are ready to listen and take action. At the MAC Conference, he saw firsthand how youth perspectives can shape afterschool and out-of-school time programs across Michigan.

When youth voice is valued, it sparks ideas, builds confidence, and drives meaningful change.

How are you making space for youth perspectives in your program? We’d love to hear.

This Youth Voice Week, we’re celebrating young people who are stepping up and shaping what comes next.

For Diya, being part of the Youth Advisory Council is about using her voice to make an impact. From policy and advocacy to communications and public speaking, she’s leaning into what she loves while helping strengthen programs for youth across Michigan.

Last year, she helped lead powerful moments like a youth panel at the MAC Conference and STEM advocacy efforts that reached communities through events, social media, and a youth-led webinar. And she’s just getting started.

When young people are trusted as leaders, they don’t just participate, they help drive real change.

How are you partnering with youth in your work?

This Youth Voice Week, we’re celebrating young people who are leading, learning, and lifting each other up.

For Chyna, being part of MASP's Youth Advisory Council means connecting with youth across Michigan, sharing ideas, and building skills she can use in school and beyond. From collaborating with peers to strengthening her communication and leadership, she’s turning her voice into action.

When youth have space to share their perspectives, everyone benefits.

How are you creating space for youth voice in your program? Drop it in the comments or share your story with us.

TAKE ACTION NOW! The President’s budget calls for eliminating dedicated federal funding for local afterschool and summer programs, which would close 21st Century Community Learning Centers serving more than 16,000 Michigan youth.

That means fewer opportunities, less support, and more barriers for young people.

Good news for licensed child care providers: free fingerprinting is available for a limited time!

From March 30 to September 30, 2026, licensed child care providers won’t have to pay fingerprinting fees as part of the child care background check process. This applies to anyone who is required to be fingerprinted — applicants, staff, household members, licensee designees, and unsupervised volunteers.

There’s no limit on the number of free appointments per facility.

Just submit your background check in the CCBC system as usual — the fee will be covered automatically.

Questions? Use your CCBC portal to submit a support case or call 844‑765‑2247.

Join us for Afterschool Day at the Capitol on April 29.

We’re bringing together youth, program leaders, and advocates from across Michigan to show what’s possible when we invest in out-of-school time. This is a chance to connect with policymakers, elevate youth voice, and make it clear that afterschool is essential infrastructure for Michigan’s future.
