At Wednesday eveningโ€™s Borough Council meeting, Councilmember Carol Martsolf provided a simple, hands-on demonstration showing what happens to different materials after they are flushed.

๐—ง๐—ผ๐—ถ๐—น๐—ฒ๐˜ ๐—ฝ๐—ฎ๐—ฝ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐—ถ๐˜€ ๐—ฑ๐—ฒ๐˜€๐—ถ๐—ด๐—ป๐—ฒ๐—ฑ ๐˜๐—ผ ๐—ฏ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—ธ ๐—ฑ๐—ผ๐˜„๐—ป ๐—พ๐˜‚๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ธ๐—น๐˜† as it moves through the sewer system. So-called โ€œflushableโ€ wipes are different. Many remain intact, collect together and can contribute to serious sewer blockages.

When wipes build up in our sewer system, the Borough must respond to clear blockages and make necessary repairs, resulting in thousands of dollars in costs that can often be avoided.

Councilmember Martsolf used her engineering expertise to demonstrate the difference between toilet paper and wipes and explain why proper disposal is important to protecting Lansdowneโ€™s sewer infrastructure.
