KNOW THE DIFFERENCE: E-Bikes vs. E-Motorcycles

With the warmer weather here, we are seeing a lot more electric cycles around the Village of Lannon. We want everyone to enjoy the outdoors safely, so please take a moment to review the rules of the road (and the trails!).

🟢 E-BIKES (LEGAL): These are designed and manufactured as bicycles with fully operable pedals and limited motor assist speeds.

Class 1: Pedal assist only, up to 20 MPH.

Class 2: Throttle or pedal assist, up to 20 MPH.

Class 3: Pedal assist only, up to 28 MPH.

🔴 E-MOTOS / OFF-HIGHWAY MOTORCYCLES (NOT LEGAL): Dirt-bike style are built for off-road use. They far exceed e-bike limits, often reaching speeds of 30–60+ MPH. These are NOT legal on public roadways, streets, sidewalks, bike paths, or multi-use trails.

⚠️ IMPORTANT TRAIL REMINDER:
Per Waukesha County ordinance, ONLY Class 1 e-bikes (pedal assist up to 20 MPH) are allowed on the Bugline Trail. Class 2, Class 3, and E-Motos are strictly prohibited on the trail to ensure the safety of all walkers, runners, and cyclists.

Today's a great day to take a ride - which means drivers should pay closer to attention to those around them. Motorcycles have a smaller profile and can be hard to see. Please look twice for bikes before changing lanes, turning out onto a road, and merging.

A Final National Police Week Thank You

Now that National Police Week has come to a close and the dust has settled, I want to personally thank everyone who made this momentous opportunity possible.

This journey began with the initial approval from Chief Dan Bell, and I am incredibly grateful to Chief Bradley Schlei for his continued, unwavering support. The Village Board was fully behind us every step of the way; in particular, I would like to extend a special thank you to Patrick Yates - Lannon Village President for his outstanding fundraising efforts.

We are also deeply indebted to the dozens of local residents and businesses who stepped up. Exceptional financial support was provided by M&D Auto Services and The Milwaukee Motor Unit Association - thank you for your incredible generosity.

I also want to express my gratitude to the Badger Motor Officer's Association and our fellow Wisconsin motor units:

City of Racine & Racine County

City of Green Bay

Dane County & City of Madison

City of Fitchburg

City of Milwaukee

You are truly the most professional and hospitable group anyone could ask to work alongside.

Additionally, a sincere thank you goes out to the federal agencies—the U.S. Park Police, U.S. Capitol Police, and the Secret Service—who acted as gracious hosts and went above and beyond to ensure our safety throughout the week.

To the hundreds of other sponsors, volunteers, and supporters of National Police Week: thank you. Your work is vital in lifting up the families of our fallen officers. For those looking to continue this support, please consider donating to your local WI Concerns of Police Survivors (WI C.O.P.S.) or the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund.

Thank you all for allowing me the distinct honor of representing the Village of Lannon as we remembered and honored our fallen heroes and their families.

National Police Week: Day 5

The sun was out in full force for Day 5 of National Police Week. More than 225 motor officers provided a solemn es**rt for nearly 30 coach buses carrying survivors and dignitaries to the National Peace Officers Memorial Service. As the procession passed, every motor officer stood at attention in a powerful display of respect for the families left behind.

Our journey included a meaningful stop at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial wall. It was a heavy moment as we paid our respects to those who made the ultimate sacrifice. This year, the names of two of our own were added to the limestone:

Officer Kendall Corder -Milwaukee Police Department
Deputy Joshua LaForge- Racine County Sheriff’s Office

We wrapped up the public portion of our day at the Lincoln Memorial. It was a great opportunity to engage with the public, as tourists stopped by to converse with the officers and take photos with the bikes.

The mission isn't quite over yet—we’ll spend the remainder of the day packing gear and prepping the motor for transport back home.

National Police Week: Day 4

We kicked off the day with an early es**rt, leading the COPS Kids to the Fairfax County Police Academy in Chantilly, Virginia. This is one of the most meaningful traditions of the week; it’s a day dedicated to letting kids just be kids. We hope it provided a much-needed breath of fresh air and a fun escape during what is always an incredibly emotional week.

We spent the afternoon at the White House, where federal agencies showcased the equipment and resources that keep our communities safe. It was a great opportunity for officers to connect and explore.

Back at base, the Metro Richmond Emerald Society graced our tailgate with traditional Celtic tunes. There’s nothing like the sound of pipes and drums to stir the soul—it was absolutely amazing!

As our time in D.C. begins to wind down, we continue to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice and extend our deepest gratitude to the organizers who work tirelessly to make this week possible.

Reflecting on Days 2 & 3 in D.C. 🇺🇸

It’s been an intense, humbling, and deeply meaningful few days on two wheels.

Day 2 was another long shift dedicated to providing safe and respectful es**rts for surviving families as they arrived at the airport. Ensuring these families feel supported from the moment they land is our top priority. During a brief moment of downtime, a local neighbor was kind enough to let us onto his roof for an exceptional view of the city skyline—a quiet moment of reflection in the middle of a heavy week.

Day 3 (Today), the Wisconsin motor detail stayed busy with numerous es**rts to the Candlelight Vigil. It was a powerful evening as we joined together to honor and remember our fallen officers.

Again, I want to thank all the community members that made this trip possible. So many people have been asking about Lannon and are impressed and appreciative we are here to support the surviving families and honor the fallen.

National Police Week: Day One

Day one of National Police Week was as powerful as it was exhausting. Our rainy morning began at 6:00 AM, hitting the road on our motors to meet at the National Park Service helipad for briefing. We joined a massive contingent of 200 motor officers from across the country—including a proud showing of 28 from Wisconsin.

Over the course of a 14-hour shift, the Lannon motor participated in several critical es**rts. The highlight was a moving, all-Wisconsin es**rt conveying the surviving families of our fallen brothers and sisters from the Badger State.

To cap off the day, the Secret Service granted us a rare photo opportunity on Pennsylvania Avenue right in front of the White House. We finally wound down thanks to the Badger Motor Officers Association, who hosted a much-needed tailgate for any and all hungry officers.

More to come tomorrow. I want to thank all of the community members who made this opportunity possible.
