Classes throughout the district marked the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks today. Neshaminy HS English Language Arts teacher Suzi Drake has a unique tradition - she reads a letter to her students from a friend who narrowly escaped the World Trade Center by a few short minutes. In the letter, he describes in detail what it was like as the tragedy unfolded. The students are then asked to write their impressions of the day, based on the letter, from different points of view of those that experienced that day. She also uses the opportunity to highlight two Neshaminy graduates who perished as a direct result of 9/11 - United Airlines flight attendant Lorraine Bay who died on Flight 93 and US Army Staff Sargeant Jae Moon, who enlisted after 9/11 and was killed in action serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
The entire letter is included in the video, along with some thoughts by students in one of Ms. Drake's classes about 9/11, which they only know it through history books, videos, and stories told by those that experienced the day.

After learning about the events that took place on September 11, 2001, these fifth graders at Poquessing MS discussed what being a hero meant. They also discussed how we can honor others. The students wrote sentences and created a poster honoring the heroes of September 11th.

Never forget...Neshaminy HS Class of 1961 graduate Lorraine Bay to be honored in November. Details below.

The Alumni Committee of the Neshaminy Education Foundation is pleased to announce that Lorraine Bay, NHS Class of 1961 will be honored in memorial at the Fifth Annual Neshaminy Alumni Achievement Awards ceremony on Monday, November 23 at Neshaminy HS. Lorraine was a senior flight attendant for United Airlines with 37 years of experience on September 11, 2001. She was working an extra shift that morning on Flight 93 from Newark to San Francisco and was among the crew and passengers who confronted the terrorist hijackers. The plane, which was later determined to be targeting federal buildings in Washington DC, crashed in Shanksville, PA. The heroic actions of Lorraine, her fellow flight attendants and the passengers prevented an additional tragedy that day.

Lorraine will be honored not only for her actions on that day, but also for her lifelong commitment to her career where she was known for her years of professionalism, generosity and upbeat disposition toward her colleagues and passengers.

Five additional Neshaminy alumni will be honored this year at the ceremony. Their names will be announced later this month.
