Fairfield County Heritage Association The FCHA owns the Sherman House and Georgian Museums. It is also the county historical society. We are the Fairfield County historical society.

Our mission is to connect all people to the rich history of Fairfield County. We are a nonprofit organization that operates two exemplary museums in downtown Lancaster, the Sherman House Museum and the Georgian Museum; champions preservation and revitalization; and provides educational programming. The museums are now closed for the season. They will re-open in April, 2023! Policy regarding posts:
- Personal attacks are disruptive to healthy dialogue.

FCHA historian Michael Johnson and his family spent Saturday afternoon in Fort Recovery, Ohio at “Beyond the Battlefield: Native Days.” Citizens of tribes who were victorious in St. Clair’s Defeat (1791) were on hand teaching and demonstrating Native activities.

Michael reunited with members from the Wyandotte Nation who he met with in Oklahoma in August!

Update: parking for the upcoming cemetery tour.
Permission has been given to park in the Masonic Lodge parking lot for those attending the cemetery tour this Sunday. You can also park on the street.

Thanks again for making this the fastest-selling cemetery tour we've ever had! We sold out of all of the tour times in just 4 days!
We will see you Sunday!

This archival photo from 1958 shows Jack Friend showing off his clocks at his store ("Jack Friend Jewelers"). Friend opened the store in 1958 and it was originally located at 336 N. Columbus Street. Needing more room, he moved to the northeast corner of N. Columbus and Wheeling (present-day site of United Hair Artist ). He closed the store in 1968 after a decade in business.
Jack studied at the Wisconsin Institute of Clock and Watch Repair. He sold clocks of all types, men's and women's jewelry, cigarette lighters and offered repairs and service. Many residents may remember him for his work with the local Soap Box Derby.

We are very excited to announce this event!

In partnership with the General William T. Sherman Civil War RoundTable, we are holding a 2-day Civil War Symposium in the birthplace of General William T. Sherman! Civil War historians and authors from across the country are coming to Lancaster, Ohio to give presentations on different aspects of Sherman's life, including his experiences in the war, his time in the west, Civil War music, a collection of family photographs and more!
A Civil War Symposium of this size has not taken place in Lancaster in over a decade! You won't want to miss it!

We want to hear from you!
Where you would like to see us highlight in 2027? We are looking for suggestions on cemeteries, events, people and buildings.

This year, the Stones & Stories Trail and the History Underfoot Trail were successful in engaging people in local history. We want to continue that in 2027! Leave ideas in the comments, DM us or send us an email.

Thank You!
Design work on the Firehouse Park historical sign has begun due to the quick sellout of our upcoming cemetery tour. Proceeds from the tour are being used to install a sign that will give the history of the property, which was the Lancaster's original city burial grounds.
