This week, the Lancaster Police Department held a special award ceremony celebrating this incredible achievement and officially received its CALEA accreditation award from Fran Moore, Regional Program Manager for the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA).

This is a major accomplishment not only for the Lancaster Police Department, but for Lancaster County as a whole. Having both the Lancaster Police Department and the Lancaster County Sheriffโ€™s Office nationally accredited reflects the shared commitment to excellence in public safety. It is an incredible feat that strengthens our county and reinforces the trust our citizens place in us day in and day out.

CALEA Accreditation is not something easily handed out. It requires a lot of hard work, training and evaluation. Less than five percent of law enforcement agencies nationwide achieve this distinction, making this achievement even more meaningful.

LCSO appreciates our partnership with the Lancaster Police Department and applaud Chief Don Roper and the men and women that put in the hard work. Lancaster County citizens deserve the very best, and together, we are on a mission to give them exactly that.

โ€œIโ€™d like to congratulate Chief Roper and his staff on this well deserved achievement. Their partnership has been a central part in keeping the citizens of Lancaster County safe.โ€ โ€” Sheriff Barry Faile

The Lancaster County Sheriffโ€™s Office was honored to take part in this special evening alongside city leaders, elected officials, community partners, officers, staff, and family members who continue supporting law enforcement throughout our community. Attached are a few photos from this weeks special event celebrating this historic achievement.

Congratulations again on this well-deserved accomplishment. We are proud to stand beside you in serving and protecting Lancaster County.

Homicide Investigation โ€“ Old Camden Road

โ€‹The Lancaster County Sheriffโ€™s Office is investigating a shooting death on Old Camden Road, Lancaster. At 9:47 Sunday night, May 24, 2026, deputies were dispatched to the 300 block of Old Camden Road after a report of shots fired. They found a 23-year-old male lying in the driveway of a home with an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was breathing and had a pulse. The first deputies to arrive provided medical aid until Lancaster County Emergency Medical Services personnel arrived. The victim was transported to a medical facility for treatment, where he later died. Lancaster County Coroner Karla Deese identified the victim as Jaheim Crawford-Hood. Coroner Deese said an autopsy is scheduled for later this week.

โ€‹Additional deputies, violent crime investigators, and crime scene investigators responded to the scene to secure it, collect evidence, and identify and talk with people there thought to have knowledge of what occurred. Initial indications are that several people including the victim were outside the home when a car sped by. Gunshots were exchanged between the occupants of the car and those outside the home. The victim is the only person injured by gunfire, but two cars at the scene appear to have been struck.

โ€‹The shooting does not appear to be random, but a suspect has not been identified or arrested. Investigators are continuing to interview witnesses and gather evidence.

โ€‹โ€œThis shooting happened in the presence of witnesses, and we need those folks and anybody else who knows anything about this case to talk with us,โ€ said Sheriff Barry Faile. โ€œInformation may be provided anonymously. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of this victim.โ€

(All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.)

This Memorial Day, the Lancaster County Sheriffโ€™s Office honors and remembers the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while defending the freedoms we enjoy every single day in this country.

Today, many families are mourning the loss of loved ones who never made it home. To those families, we see you, we stand with you, and we mourn alongside you.

While Memorial Day is a time of remembrance, it is also a time to celebrate the courage, honor, and selflessness of those who gave everything for this nation. It takes a special kind of bravery to place the lives of others before your own, and today we recognize and honor that sacrifice.

We also encourage everyone to participate in the National Moment of Remembrance at 3:00 p.m. local time by observing a moment of silence for those who gave their lives in service to our country.

Please take time today to reflect on the heroes who paid the ultimate price and keep their loved ones in your hearts. This day should be filled with the utmost gratitude.

May we never forget their sacrifice, and may we continue to honor the fallen.

We remember. We honor. We thank you.

The Lancaster County Sheriffโ€™s Office is requesting the publicโ€™s assistance in identifying an individual involved in two incidents at Tractor Supply on Marvin Road, occurring Thursday and Friday.

The suspect was observed as the passenger in a silver 4-door sedan in both instances. The vehicle appears to be a Toyota Camry or Nissan-style sedan. It has visible damage to the front passenger-side bumper and there also appears to be a license plate displayed in the rear window.

Although the images of the suspect are not clear, our investigators are hopeful someone may recognize the individual or the vehicle involved.

If you have any information that may assist in this investigation, please contact the Lancaster County Sheriffโ€™s Office at 803-283-3388, press option 4.

Lastly, please make sure to share this post to help us identify those involved.

Everyone who shares information and assists plays a vital role in helping us keep Lancaster County safe.

Thank you!

The Lancaster County Sheriffโ€™s Office would like to congratulate Patrol Captain Ken Kelley on graduating from the Leadership Lancaster program through the Lancaster County Chamber of Commerce.

Over the course of seven months, participants in Leadership Lancaster are challenged and educated through an in-depth look at the opportunities, goals, and needs of our community. Using the community as a classroom, the program exposes current and future leaders to a broad range of local issues, leaders, and experiences that encourage both personal and professional growth.

From History Day and Education Day to Legislative Day, Law Enforcement Day, and more, the program helps foster civic awareness, community involvement, and leadership throughout Lancaster County.

Captain Kelleyโ€™s graduation reflects his continued dedication to serving not only the citizens of Lancaster County, but also investing in the future of our community through leadership and engagement. Congratulations, Captain!

As you celebrate with family and friends, we ask that you make safety your top priority:

โ€ข If you plan to drink, please plan ahead and use a sober designated driver or rideshare service.
โ€ข If using fireworks, follow all safety precautions and keep a safe distance.
โ€ข If enjoying time on the water, make sure life jackets are available for everyone on board and never operate a boat or watercraft while under the influence.

This past Sunday, we said our final goodbyes to Master Deputy Michael Hirtle.
Alongside multiple agencies and countless community members, we had the honor of sharing words of love, support, and encouragement with his family and loved ones.

Losing someone so vital to our community is never easy.
Mike was a kind soul, a servant to others, and a great man.
May we all remember the genuine heart he carried every single day.

Let his life serve as a reminder to treat others with compassion, to lead with kindness, and to make the most of every day, regardless of the challenges we may face.

Wearing the badge is about more than keeping Lancaster County safe.
It is about ensuring the people we serve know we are here for them, not just as law enforcement officers, but as neighbors, friends, and servants of the community.

Mike believed deeply in that mission, and he was a shining example of what true service looks like.
No matter what was needed, Mike was there. He was always there.

We are forever grateful for his years of dedicated service, and equally thankful to his family for sharing him with us throughout those years.

This profession calls for extraordinary people supported by extraordinary families.
Mike embodied that calling, and he gave his all in service to the citizens of Lancaster County.

We will continue to keep Mikeโ€™s family, friends, and everyone affected by this loss in our thoughts and prayers.

Rest in Peace, Michael Patrick Hirtle.

Weโ€™ll take it from here.
