Serving the County of Lancaster and the Towns of Irvington, Kilmarnock and White Stone, the very existence of the Sheriff's Office is based upon community service. The greater percentage of time is spent on non-criminal service functions and dealing with law-abiding citizens. It is our duty and privilege not only to protect the community, but also to protect and defend the rights guaranteed under our structure of government.

This truck was delivering a pool across the Robert O Norris Bridge this morning and struck several vehicles. It is now lodged onto the guard rail. LCSO,VSP, VDOT and other emergency services re on location. Expect delays if you are going this way. We are trying to open one lane for traffic flow at this time.

Condolences to Sheriff Kemp and The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office. Two deputies were dispatched to a welfare check at a residence. They made contact with a male subject that began shooting at the two deputies. The deputies returned fire. The two deputies were struck by the gunfire. One succumbed to injuries and the other received a round to his protective vest. He is in stable condition and being evaluated. The suspect fled the scene and is a fugitive.
God be with the fallen deputies families and comfort them. Also healing prayers for the injured deputy.
