The Lancaster City Bureau of Police is a full-service police department that has provided law enforcement to the City of Lancaster since 1865. The department is the largest and only urban law enforcement agency in Lancaster County, serving nearly 60,000 residents. We believe community-oriented policing is the best way to serve the residents, visitors, neighborhoods, and businesses in the City of L

ancaster. This policing philosophy empowers our officers and civilian staff to build trust and form long-lasting relationships with those we serve. To ensure all our officers and senior command staff have a full understanding and appreciation of the philosophy, we have incorporated community-oriented policing into our hiring process, personnel evaluations, and required department training. We recognize we cannot solve public safety concerns alone. Our residents, business owners, and other stakeholders have an important role in developing solutions to help improve quality of life for everyone. We are committed to working collaboratively with all community members to solve important issues that will help our city continue to thrive.

It is now ILLEGAL under Pennsylvania law to use hand-held devices while driving.

Drivers are not allowed to physically hold their phone while in a travel lane, even if stopped at a red light. The ONLY exception is when calling 911.

People who violate this law a subject to a $50 fine, plus court costs.

The law is named after Paul Miller, who was killed in 2010 during a head-on crash caused by a distracted driver.

If you need to make a call or send a text while driving, use your voice assistant, or wait until you’re parked. No text is worth taking a life.

Some people have been wondering why we're now driving with our cruiser lights on, and the answer is simple: it makes us easier to see! If you're on the street and you need help, our lights make it easier to see where you can go for help. And if you know a police officer is nearby, you'll think twice before committing a crime.
